Personal Statement

1. Describe an example of your leadership experience in which you have positively

influenced others, helped resolve disputes or contributed to group efforts over time.

An example of my leadership is when I went to summer camp in the summer of 2020 I

showed leadership by using my voice during my time at Adventure Risk Challenge the
summer program. By stepping out of my comfort zone and becoming leader of the day
three times. It was difficult being the first leader of the day but it was amazing knowing
that I had those leadership skills in me. I definitely made so much improvement
throughout my times of being leader. I found my voice and stood for what I thought was
right, like respect. And I knew then that my opinion matters, my voice does matter. Even
during times like heavy rock, light rock, it was difficult to share my life problems with
people because it was my personal life. I didn’t really know anyone personally, but when
I shared and heard my voice while I was saying my problems out loud and proud with
tears running down my face, it felt amazing to get all that water in my lungs back out and
get the scent of relief once again. Showing that leadership of being vulnerable in front of
my peers really encouraged them to share their feelings and what they are going through
without judgment and it really helped all of us come together and bond even more
throughout the summer.

2. Describe how you have taken advantage of a significant educational opportunity or

worked to overcome an educational barrier you have faced.

During my first semester as a senior I had no idea what I truly wanted to do when I
graduated from high school. I was so panicked because I had no idea what to do but then
I took advantage of an educational opportunity to study abroad. I was originally just
going to go to Merced College for 2 years then transfer. Then I got the opportunity to
study abroad and I took that opportunity and now I am going to study in Costa Rica for
my freshman year in college. I am proud of myself for making the choice to go study
abroad because I love traveling and studying so being able to do both is a dream come
true for me personally. This opportunity comes with a lot of opportunities. I got a
scholarship for $12,000 to pay off some of my tuition for my studies abroad. Another
opportunity I would love to take is to study abroad in a different country for my second
semester which you could do since it’s a part of the program to be able to study in two
different countries so I plan on studying in Costa Rica first semester then I would study in
Italy. This educational opportunity is a huge one and I am glad I didn’t pass this
opportunity.

3. Think about an academic subject that inspires you. Describe how you furthered this
interest inside and/or outside of the classroom.
An academic subject that inspires me is History. This subject inspires me because I love
history. It's a very interesting subject and learning about history is one of my favorite
things to do. There is just something about learning about the past, cultures, wars, and life
back then that is very fascinating to me. Both my older siblings love history too. They
know a lot about history and I learn a lot from them. I want to keep being fascinated by
history so I’m going to major in Anthropology which is the study of cultures. I believe
that studying cultures in the past is one of the most interesting things to learn about, just
being able to learn about the past of these many beautiful cultures and how they lived and
their ways of living life is amazing and I truly can’t wait to learn about these cultures and
major in Anthropology.
