Course objective:
Protection of Human Rights became an important issue after the Second World War and the acceptance
of Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The growth of law of Human Rights and the development
of human rights jurisprudence have been spontaneous and continuous. These changes in the global
scenario brought new vigour to the protection of human rights. Only when a society is aware of this
right-duty relationship can there be any meaning to human rights. This course is intended to highlight
the concept of human rights and their importance in our society particularly focusing criminal justice.

Course Outcome:
At the end of the course the student is expected to have acquired the:
1. Theoretical understanding to concept of human rights and criminal justice system
2. Skill to understand various global and local social and political contexts in which human rights
operate.
3. Skill to identify strategies and schemes for tackling such as police atrocities and custodial torture,
violence against women and children, communal violence, and help members internalize more
humane and egalitarian approach in their social relations.
4. Ability to understand management of actions in decision-making processes, including in the contest
of contemporary issues.
