the next step of this Learning Episode, NOTICE).

Participate actively by assisting your Resource Teacher in his/her daily task. Take the
initiative to offer your assistance. Don’t wait for your Resource Teacher to ask for it.

Notice

 your Resource Teacher comments, facial expressions, gestures and action in class
 student’s comments, facial expressions, gestures and behavior in class
 how your Resource Teacher relates to you
 the classroom proceedings
 the classroom atmosphere – relaxed or threatening?

Analyz

1. From the PPSTs, the Southeast Asia Teachers Competency Standards and the TEDx videos
that you viewed, what competencies does a great teacher possess?
PPSTs and SATCS give emphasis to skill, knowledge, behavior, and attributes of a teacher to
be a great teacher but TED talk is beyond that limit, they build good relationship to their student
communicate, listen to them, learn from them, teach them how to be human not only the lesson
that the books provide and most importantly love them the way how you love yourself, the way
you love your profession.
2. Are these competencies limited only to professional competencies?
Maybe some, when we incline in global standard I may said yes. But think about the other side
of a page, practically speaking some uneducated person may possess those competencies rather
than educated one. My point is even a normal person can build healthy relationship and show
love and care to other like some student who voluntary teacher the street children that goes viral
on internet. It is in our nature to think that when one person is professional he/she already
possess those competencies.
3. For a teacher to be great, is it enough to possess the professional competencies to plan a
lesson, execute a lesson plan, manage a class, assess learning, compute and report grades?
Explain your answer.
Of course not, I may call you teacher or professional but not great as that if you only possess
those competencies. It more than that, I do believe that if teaching is your true calling you are
dedicated to what you are doing. Put love to your profession it always beyond the limit of being
a traditional one (adopt, progress and engage).

4. For a teacher to be great, which is more important – personal qualities or professional

competencies?
I rather choose both because it has a big impact to the field of teaching. What you gonna do if
you have personal qualities but lack of professional competencies? Same as what if you have
professional competencies but without personal qualities. Maybe it too hard to attain it both but
we choose this profession, we should do what things make us better. Continue to progress try and
try.
5. Who are the teachers that we remember most?
The teacher that give an big impact to our life (a life changing moment). Maybe most of you
remember those teachers who give good advice and motivation, but for me the teacher that I
remember the most are those teachers who treat me down its motivate me a lots I always said
“No! you wrong about” “I will prove it that I can do it”. Of course I’m being grateful to those
teachers who give nice words and motivational advice.

Reflect

Which personal traits do I possess? Where do I need improvement in?

I may possess a hard working personality, creative, dedicated to thing I love the most,
and good adviser. Maybe the things that I need to improve is way I communicate, I may lack of
self-esteem that dragging may self-confidence and patients but I’m trying to work on it.
Which professional competencies am I strongly capable of demonstrating?
Skill and Attributes I’m working so hard to the things always matter. And maybe a
knowledge (it’s a continue process to learn and embark knowledge)
In which competencies do I need to develop more?
I need to develop competencies under the behavior like I said I’m lacking with may self-
confident and patients but not most of the time, I can handle may emotion too.
Who are the teachers that we remember most?
Some teacher we remember the most are those teachers who stand for us, love us and
care for us. Maybe some student remembers those teachers who give low grades, make them
embarrass and too strict for them.

Write Action

1. OBSERVE In assisting my Resource Teacher, I observed that personal traits such as good in
communicating skill (the tone of voice and pronunciation), he has a sense of humor (but some
jokes are not truly funny) He is patients and has a good quality of self-confident the he knows the
lesson that he going to execute and professional competencies like skills in teaching, he is
knowledgeable in the lesson he teaches, and I think he has a good attitude the way he
talk(explain and ask question) were least / not displayed and as a result, students were /class was
enjoy the class that day, when teacher hit the question everyone is welling to answer (how brainy
they are), they laugh sometimes when jokes are funny, and most especially they are attentive
(some student taking down notes)
2. REFLECT The lack of these personal traits and professional competencies (mentioned in #1)
may be caused by boredom of class. The student may not listen and learn. If you not possess at
least three or four of those personal traits and professional competencies you came to room/class
just to wait your salary, because if you are dedicated to the thing you wanted you should do
something, make any difference and be professional.
3. PLAN I would like to address this problem (mentioned in#2) by conducting an action
research on effective teacher in terms of online class. What are the other resources that may use
to promote effective learnings? What pedagogical or teaching strategies need an improvement.
Where the student may be lacking or the teacher didn’t emphasis more?
4. ACT. ACT
a) The main objective of my action research is to provide a better field of teaching on online
class. To know the problem and make an action about it.
b) My specific research question are: What are the other resources that may use to promote
effective learnings? What pedagogical or teaching strategies need an improvement? Where the
student may be lacking or the teacher didn’t emphasis more?
c) To answer my specific research question, I should construct and conceptualize my research
question. Think and create a question that specific only to my topic, before I distribute may
research question.

“Am I Ready?”

The title of this Episode is “The Teacher We Remember”. In particular, we always

remember those teachers who did something good to us, the teacher who care to us,
understand us and love us. I’m too much grateful to have them as a student. Treasure those
memories we share together. If you ask me who among those teachers, I remember the most? I
may answer you that “not those teachers who make good things to me, but those teachers who
make me stronger and motivate, the teacher who didn’t believe in me, the teacher who make
me embarrass in front of others, the teachers mad at me as always.” Because those things sink
in not just in my mind but also in my heart. But in the future I don’t want to make it in my
future class, I don’t want them to suffer like what I encounter in my past. I will make them feel
as we are one family that share good and bad things. Even do they didn’t remember me as
good or great teacher as I am. Making them feel that they are not alone in chasing their dream
s is a big part of my accomplishment.
Reading those standard to be professional teacher and listening to motivational
discussion enlighten me to the path that I’m taking today. It makes me realize and thinking. At
the end of this episode I been asking myself, “Do I possess those professional competencies
and personal trait when I am in field of teaching?” “I can be a great teacher that discuss on
TED talks?” “Am I good or quality enough for local and global standard?” Those things make
me realize how far I am right now to be on that stage. But I will everything just to make it
possible, continue to progress and trust the process.
