Step 1 Clearing & Grubbing
The clearing and grubbing shall be done up to the limits of structure as shown on the
construction drawing. The method of clearing is described in MS – O1 – SC.
Step 2 Setting out
The limits & levels of excavation shall be setout with the timber pegs as shown on the
drawings or as directed by the Engineer.

Step 3 Excavation
Foundation excavation shall be done manually in small quantities and by using
machinery in large quantities. The bottom of foundation shall be trimmed and leveled
to the lines and levels as shown on the drawings. If the unsuitable material is
encountered in foundation level, additional excavation shall be done to the depths as
directed by Engineer. Where rock is found in the limits of excavation blasting shall be
done carefully with safety precautions. Where dewatering is necessary, pumping and
scouring shall be done to a suitable method. A 50 mm thick screed concrete (Grade C
15) shall be laid at the bottom of the trench as a leveling concrete to avoid
contamination of concrete with underlying mud or soil when placing same on virgin
ground.
Step 4 Fixing Formwork
The type of formwork shall be selected to produce a concrete member of required size
& shape and to produce the desired finish to the concrete. The timber flanks shall be
used for rough finish work and Ply wood sheets shall be used for smooth finish works.
The formwork shall be set to the lines & levels shown in the drawings. The steel or
timber props shall be used to support the formwork to bear the loads on it.
Step 5 Reinforcement work
Reinforcement of specify grades & type shall be cut and bent by applying bar cutter to
the dimensions given with the bar bending schedules shown in the drawings. The
already cut and bent reinforcement shall be placed in correct position with the
specified spacing & fixed with binding wires at the bar intersections. Cover blocks
shall be placed at regular intervals to keep the nominal concrete cover. Where
necessary, bars shall be lapped with required lap lengths. Till the concrete is placed,
reinforcement shall be kept in clean condition.
Step 6 Levels of Drain
The design finish levels of the lined drain base and walls shall be marked using level
pegs for base and level line on side shutter boards for walls respectively.
Step 7 Concreting
The concrete shall be mixed in grades shown on the drawings at the site of
construction. The constituent material shall be batched by volume with nominal mix
proportions. A 400mm x 350mm x 250mm measuring box shall be used for batching
of aggregate and sand. For mixing of concrete, a mixer with 250/300 liter capacity
shall be used. Measurable water buckets shall be used to measure the quantity of
water to ensure the correct water/cement ratio. The concrete shall be uniformly and
thoroughly mixed to the required consistence prior to placing. Before placing the
concrete the place of concreting shall be cleaned and made free from water.
The concrete shall be placed in such a manner as to avoid segregation and the
displacement of reinforcing bars and shall be spread in horizontal layers where
practicable. Where the drop height of concrete is greater than 1.20 m, a chute shall be
used for placing the concrete. 1” or 1½” poker vibrator shall be used to compact the
concrete homogeneously. Poker vibrator shall be applied in vertical manner and sway
of vibrator shall not be allowed. A substitute vibrator would be made available at the
concreting site to ensure continuous vibration in the event of the vibrator being

rendered unserviceable. Finally surface of the concrete should be finished and
smoothed to the required level. The testing cubes shall be cast in six numbers for
every10 m3 of each grade of concrete per day. Three cubes shall be tested on 7 days
and other three shall be tested on 28 days. Slump tests shall be carried out in
randomly selected batches for each concrete grade per day, adopting specified grade
of workability.
Step 8 Removal of Formwork
The minimum periods between concreting and the removal of forms of walls and
bases of lined drains shall be 01 day. The formwork shall be removed without
damaging the structures.
Step 9 Curing
Curing shall be started right after the casting of concreting by covering surfaces using
wet gunny bags and continued for minimum of 7 days. After removal of formworks
all the faces of drains shall be covered with wet gunny bags and wetted twice per day.
6. Supervision
Position Responsibilities
Site Engineer Perform the concreting on the basis of method statement,
specification and drawings.
Quality Control Currying out all kind of inspection in accordance with the
Inspector (QCI) Quality Procedure and Method Statement
Technical Officer All setting out works in accordance with Method
Statement and drawings
Forman Assist to Site Engineer/ Technical officer
7. Inspection
According to the attached Inspection and Test Plan “H” point, “W” point inspection
and tests shall be notified to QC Inspector. QC Inspector shall inspect site works as
scheduled and report the Check List to Quality Assurance Engineer.
The Inspection and Test Plan for relevant working area shall be available on site for
the Resident Engineer to see. Upon completion of the Inspection and Test Plan, the
ITP shall be maintained at the MAGA - CDIG Project Office and submit to the RE
with the progress claim.
8. Traffic Control
Two flagmen shall be assigned on either side of the working area if the available
space is narrow for traffic.
