Robotic Combat Vehicle Update Report

The document discusses upcoming experiments and demonstrations for robotic combat vehicles (RCVs). It outlines plans for Phase I experiments in March-April 2020 using Modified Expanded Capability Bradley prototypes equipped with autonomous technologies. Phase II experiments in April-May 2020 called Project Origin will use surrogate vehicles in Germany and Latvia to further test RCV capabilities. The document provides an overview of experimental configurations, technologies being tested, and objectives to develop tactics and operational concepts for integrating RCVs to provide strategic advantages on future battlefields.

Observations
• The assured control wireless tether is the critical piece of
enabling technology.
• RCV crews require an NCO to provide mission command
(Two RCVs: Five Soldiers).
• Virtual experiments are a cost-effective way to develop
hypotheses to later verify during live experiments.
• Soldiers have demonstrated an intuitive ability to operate
RCVs and require less training time than anticipated.
• “360º Situational Awareness” includes other senses as well
as a camera feed.
• Signature management will be a challenge.
• Architecture and supply chain approaches mitigate cyber
vulnerabilities.
