Understanding Motion: Distance and Time

Motion is defined as a change in an object's position and involves considering a reference point to determine if an object has changed positions. Displacement measures the change in an object's position from a reference point to its final destination as the shortest distance between the initial and final positions. Speed is the rate of change in an object's position, measured by the formula of displacement over time. Velocity is speed with direction, defined as displacement over a unit of time in a particular direction.

Motion in Terms of Distance

and Time
Motion
Motion is defined as the change in
position of an object.
How do we know if the object changes its position?
We need to consider the Reference Point which is either a place
or object used as basis for comparison to determine if something
is in motion.
Displacement
is the measure of the change in position by an object from
the refernce point to its final destination.
it is the shortest distance between the initial or reference
point and final position of the object.
Speed

is the rate of change in position or simply a rate of

motion. Measured by this formula:
Velocity
it is defined as the displacement (covered by it) per unit
time in a particular direction. (Speed with direction)
