Chapter III
METHODOLOGY
This chapter presents the research design, the research locale, population
and sampling method, data gathering instrument, and procedure, and statistical
treatment that will be used in analyzing the data that will be gathered.
Research Design
This study is descriptive correlational method of research that delved into
the level of academic examination preparedness of Level IV nursing students of
Northwestern University for School Year 2021 – 2022.
Descriptive correlational research is a method used to describe the level
of academic preparedness of students in taking their preliminary, midterm, and
final examinations in one academic year. As defined by Calmorin (2010),
descriptive research delves on the analysis of a currently existing phenomenon
such as the level of academic examination preparedness of Level IV nursing
students in successfully passing their academic examinations, hence the design
is appropriate.
Sources of Data
Locale of the study. The participants of the study will be Level IV nursing
students of Northwestern University in Laoag City. There will be 10 nursing
students from level IV to be selected.
2
Instrumentation
The respondents will be asked a set of interview open-ended questions in
order to overlook and accumulate different information from the participants. It is
a type of instrument to be utilized to gather, assay and expound the different
views of a group of people from a particular population. This instrumentation that
will be used by the researchers will be a descriptive based research questions in
order for the researchers to see the different opinions of the level IV nursing
students of Northwestern University.
Data Gathering Procedure
The researchers will conduct the data gathering procedure at
Northwestern University in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte . There will be 10 Level IV
nursing students to be asked to answer the interview questions. Before the
researchers asked the respondents to answer the set of questions, they will first
present the letter from their clinical instructor that they were given the authority to
conduct the survey in the said school. Then they will ask 10 Level IV nursing
students to answer the interview questions, the researchers will write down the
vital information from the respondents needed for their study. After the interview,
the researchers will thank the respondents for their kindness and patience in
having an interview, most especially to the school administration for letting the
researchers conduct their survey.

Data Analysis/Treatment of Data
The data gathered was analyzed through performing the statistical tools
specifically the following:
Ethical Considerations
The implementation of the study will assure compliance with ethical norms by
focusing on the preservation of moral, social, and humanitarian rights, as well as the
safety of researchers and the respondents.
Before the research starts, the study will be first submitted to the University
Research Ethics Review Board (URERB) for formal ethics review and approval of the
research protocol, study tools, and informed consent by the chair of the board and its
panel. The researchers will also seek consent of the Dean of the College of Health
Sciences to conduct the study after receiving ethical clearance from the URERB. In
addition, a letter will be forwarded to the _________ of Level IV nursing students. The
interview questions will be accompanied by a cover letter that explains the study's goal,
the importance of respondents' involvement, the assurance of confidentiality of
responses, and the data collection deadline. The respondents will be asked to give their
informed agreement to participate in the study. In case the respondents have any
issues, the researchers' contact information will be provided. The study's goals will be
stressed, as well as the fact that there will be no harm or danger involved in
participation. Participants will also be notified in a timely manner that their identity will be
kept confidential and anonymous, that their participation is entirely voluntary, and that

they will not be paid in any way. Furthermore, if they get uncomfortable throughout the
process, they can withdraw at any time.
The interview quesions will be distributed personally to the respondents. Upon
the day of interview, the researchers will ensure strict adherence to the school’s health
protocol by wearing masks, face shields and maintaining social distancing to minimize
the risk of acquiring the disease. After the data has been collected, the interview
paraphernalia will be kept for a period of time to secure the information collected then
after which the paraphernalia will be shredded and disposed properly.
