EXPLODING BOMB – Julia

Explosives, including organic peroxides and highly unstable material at risk of exploding
even without exposure to air (self-reactives).
 Explosives
 Self-reactives
 Organic peroxides

FLAME – Julia
Flammable materials or substances liable to self ignite when exposed to water or air
(pyrophoric), or which emit flammable gas.
 Flammables
 Pyrophorics
- Pyrophoric materials are substances that ignite instantly upon exposure to
oxygen
 Self-heating
 Emits flammable gas
 Self-reactives
 Organic peroxides

FLAME OVER CIRCLE – Jamica

Flame Over Circle: Identifies oxidizers. Oxidizers are chemicals that facilitate burning
or make fires burn hotter and longer.
 Oxidizers
 Oxidizers are solids, liquids, or gases that react readily with most organic material or
reducing agents with no energy input. Oxidizers are a severe fire hazard. They are not
necessarily combustible, but they can intensify combustion and increase the
flammable range for chemicals so they ignite more readily.

GAS CYLINDER – Kysia

Gas Cylinder: Gases stored under pressure, such as ammonia or liquid nitrogen.
 Gases under pressure
Container contains pressurized gas. This may be cold when released, and explosive
when heated. Containers should not be heated.

CORROSION – Dennis
Corrosion: Materials causing skin corrosion/burns or eye damage on contact, or that
are corrosive to metals.
 Skin corrosion/ burns
 Eye damage
 Corrosive to metals
SKULL AND CROSSBONES – Katherine Gonzales
Skull and Crossbones: Substances, such as poisons and highly concentrated acids,
which have an immediate and severe toxic effect (acute toxicity).
 Acute toxicity (fatal or toxic)
This indicates life threatening effects, in some cases even after limited exposure. Any
form of ingestion and skin contact should be avoided

HEALTH HAZARD – Mandy

Health Hazard: A cancer-causing agent (carcinogen) or substance with respiratory, reproductive
or organ toxicity that causes damage over time (a chronic, or long-term, health hazard).
 Carcinogen
 Mutagenicity
 Reproductive toxicity
 Respiratory sensitiser
 Target Organ toxicity
 Aspirations toxicity

EXCLAMATION MARK – Mandy

Exclamation Mark: An immediate skin, eye or respiratory tract irritant, or narcotic.
 Irritant (skin and eye)
 Skin sensitiser
 Acute toxicity (harmful)
 Narcotic effects
 Respiratory Tract irritant
 Hazardous to ozone (not mandatory)

ENVIRONMENT - Dennis
Environmental Hazard: Chemicals toxic to aquatic wildlife.
 Aquatic toxicity
 Indicates substances that are too toxic to aquatic organisms, or may cause long
lasting environmental effects. They should be disposed responsibly.
