Snowy Egrets (Egretta thula), which some consider to be one of
the most elegant species within the heron (Ardeidae) family, are
among the most easily spotted birds in Redwood Shores.
Snowy Egrets can be identified by their feet, bright yellow for
adults and neon green for juveniles, in contrast to the black feet
of Great Egrets. During breeding season, in addition to their feet By 5:10, the party is in full swing. While initially, the egrets opted

Both males and females take turns incubating the eggs, and when
parents switch, they have at times been seen passing a stick
between each other, comparable to humans passing a baton.
Snowy Egrets’ diets are mainly centered
around small aquatic creatures like fish
and crustaceans, but they also eat insects,
invertebrates, and small lizards. Snowy
Egrets often eat in large, multispecies
feeding groups, and are also known by
ornithologists to be incredibly social; in my personal experience
it’s rare to spot a Snowy Egret all alone without another one nearby.

At the Front of Plant site, SVCW's contractor partner, Shea Parsons Joint Venture (SPJV), has completed work on the
connection of the two-branch 60-inch manifold to the piping at the interface wall between the Receiving Lift Station (RLS)
and Surge and Flow Splitter (SFS) shafts. is connection will permit raw wastewater entering the SFS shaft from the
gravity pipeline tunnel to be pumped via the six new RLS pumps, to the new Headworks Facility for preliminary treatment.
Completion of this connection is a big milestone and, now, SPJV is installing miscellaneous piping and knife gate valves at
the connection points for each of the RLS pumps. Simultaneously, SPJV is continuing with installation of personnel support
grating above the manifold piping which will allow SVCW staff to access pump motors and valve actuators for future
maintenance. e installation work includes handrails, electrical conduits, and electrical panels within the RLS shaft.

SVCW's contractor partner for GP, Barnard Bessac Joint Venture (BBJV),
continues with the installation of the fiberglass reinforced polymer (FRP)
pipe inside the gravity tunnel, to carry raw wastewater from the member
agencies' collection systems to the Front of Plant site. BBJV successfully
completed installing the pipe half the distance from the SFS shaft to the
Airport Access Shaft (AAS). In doing so, BBJV overcame challenges
maneuvering the pipe segments into position while working with the
segment length and curvature of the tunnel by maintaining consistent
coordination with the subcontractors and inspectors on site. BBJV has
also completed installation of FRP pipe in the tunnel section between the
San Carlos Shaft and the AAS.
With a lot of concurrent work at the SFS shaft for Front of Plant and

coordination efforts to ensure the highest quality of work, without causing

Construction work on the Belmont Gravity Pipeline (BGP) along Shoreway Road in Belmont and San Carlos continues.
Following completion of micro-tunneling from the second jacking shaft (JS2) to the second receiving shaft (RS2), SVCW's
contractor partner, Shea Parsons Joint Venture (SPJV), is working on installation of the 36 inch Belmont gravity pipe at
JS2. Simultaneously, restoration of the RS1 shaft has begun, where sheet piles, which are narrow interlocking sheets driven
into the ground for temporary support during excavation, are being removed. SPJV and its subcontractors maintain
consistent coordination efforts with the SVCW public outreach team and neighboring businesses to minimize traffic impacts.
