7E Lesson Plan Total Internal Reflection

This document provides an outline for a 60-minute lesson on total internal reflection for grade 9 students. The lesson will begin with eliciting prior knowledge on reflection. Students will then engage with examples and pictures of reflection before exploring total internal reflection in small groups. Next, groups will explain their observations, followed by elaborating on the key concepts through a discussion with questions to deepen understanding of total internal reflection. The goal is for students to recognize the conditions for total internal reflection at a media boundary.

Topic Total Internal Reflection

Grade Level 9
Time Allotment 60minutes
Teacher Angeline T. Maghinang
Learning Competencies and Objectives
Students will be able to
 recognize that light incident on a media boundary can be totally internally reflected if the light
propagates in a medium of greater refractive index than on the other side of the boundary,
 recognize that only light rays’ incident at angles greater than the critical angle are totally internally
reflected.

ELICIT Materials/ Assessment Tools

Before the starts of the lesson, students should already be familiar with Power point presentation
reflection. The teacher will show students the power point of total internal
reflection.

ENGAGE Materials/ Assessment Tools

Show a different example of reflection. The teacher will ask the students Examples/Pictures
how the elements are grouped and arranged as to what had they
observed

EXPLORE Materials/ Assessment Tools

In this phase, the students are (grouped 5 members/group), provided Per group been given a copy of the
with the material and properly instructed on what has to be done and with example picture of reflection
the following questions given for them to answer

The students then share their observation as shown by their teacher. The
teacher will monitor the students work by group
EXPLAIN Materials/ Assessment Tools
The teacher provided the students time to show their answers to their
activity and their observation on the arrangement of the periodic table
through group presentation / group reporting

ELABORATE Materials/ Assessment Tools

The class will be directed to read the Key Concepts. Questions will be Power point presentation
asked to deepen the discussion. (questions)
