12 Installation Instructions
TurboFit
Install only in a PC with Windows 2000 (SP4), XP, Vista or Win-7, 32-bit
(Will not work on 64-bit!)

Special note for Turbofit installation on Microsoft Vista: Disable Internet connection, then
install software, connect hardware, let it find USB driver, then you can re-enable internet.
See also special instructions for foreign users on page 88 of the TurboFit manual.
Note: If you are replacing a TurboFit version older than 5.05, you may need to uninstall
such older version manually. To uninstall manually a previous TurboFit installation,
use the following sequence:
START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS >
TURBOFIT 5.xx > REMOVE.
Note: If you are installing a TuboFit update that you have downloaded from the internet, you must
first UNZIP the download. You may see all the files before you unzip, but the installation will not
work until you UNZIP.
More: You may need to disable Norton Anti-Virus if you get an error message during installation.
Install software before connecting hardware.
1. Make note of existing Device Configuration (Skip this step if you only have a
standard Vista system with USB interface and no accessories):
For versions 5.03 and prior, click on START Menu, then CONFIGURE DEVICE,
make notes of current Device Configuration.
For versions 5.04 and later, start TurboFit, go to SETUP > HARDWARE CONFIG >
enter password "vacumed" and make notes of current Device Configuration.
2. Insert disk in CD drive. Open the directory for the CD drive.
(You may want to change the "VIEW". Click into the toolbar > VIEW > DETAILS.
3. Click on > TBF install (date) > Setup.exe (Application)
4. If a previous TurboFit version is installed, the Installation Wizard will ask:
"Modify, Repair or Remove?"
5. Select REMOVE, Then NEXT > NEXT, wait for FINISH.
(Data files will not be deleted)
6. Click Setup.exe again, click on NEXT > Accept > NEXT until installation starts.
7. YES, add Old Patients to New Database. (No, if first time)
8. Program will ask if you want to install DIRECT-X now, say yes unless you are sure it
is already installed.
9. Reboot after installation.
After Reboot:
10. Click on TurboFit icon to open the program.
11. Click on SETUP, then HARDWARE CONFIG (Password: vacumed).
(Skip this step if you only have a standard Vista system with USB interface and no
other devices controlled by TurboFit)

12. ACTIVATE the options that are part of your CPX system and select a COM-port
(Serial port) where appropriate. Save and Exit.
13. Click on USER HEADER to enter the name of our lab if you want it to appear on the
print-outs
14. Click on EXERCISE DEVICE if you have a computer-controlled ergometer or
treadmill and select the appropriate device.
15. Click on CUSTOMIZE SCREEN to modify screen layouts if desired.
(Go to SETUP > CUSTOMIZE SCREEN > SHOW PATTERN and adjust size.)
16. Go to the CALIBRATION MENU and enter the correct Low O2 and High CO2
calibration gas values from your calibration gas tank
17. Click into the EXHALE VOLUME box to select uni-directional
(default may be bi-directional) turbine.
Mini-CPX is usually bi-directional, MX and VO2 Lab are uni-directional.
Check the turbine calibration with a syringe.
18. Click on REVIEW in Main Menu, then IMPORT to re-import previous tests.
(Hold down the SHIFT key to import multiple files)
19. Verify that the FILTER DATA settings are set to your choice.
20. In PATIENT INFO SCREEN, select heart rate device.
(Do not select "3-lead" or "12-lead" ECG unless it is installed on your PC)
Installation CD includes new User Manuals.
Tips
Data can be recovered if program or PC crashes (or power loss during test).
After restarting TurboFit, go to SETUP > EMERGENCY DATA RECOVERY.
The most recent test data file name will be "Filename999.stress".
You can type UNITS into the Edit Data Password field in order to
correct weight/height data.
You can type DELETEAT into the Edit Data password field in order
to deselect a previously saved LT (AT).
You can type FEV1 into the Edit Data password field in order to compute and
print a predicted VEmax in the Summary Report or Fitness Analysis.
Enter the actual FEV1, such as 3.2.
Press "F10" twice to mark the Recovery point
Warning:
Never delete TurboFit by removing the data files manually. Always use the installation
CD REMOVE command, unless you are removing an old TurboFit program as explained
above.
