Solution Problem 3 Chap7

The document outlines the analysis of a combined four bar and crank-slider mechanism, detailing the steps for calculating parameters such as position, velocity, and acceleration for both mechanisms. It provides specific equations and values for angular acceleration, displacement, and velocity for links in the mechanisms. The analysis concludes with the calculated acceleration of the slider in the crank-slider mechanism.

Q3: The given mechanism is the combination of four bar and crank-slider mechanisms.

Therefore, it can be split into two mechanisms and do the analysis. The solution of the
problem consists of following steps:

Step 1: Required parameter for crank-slider mechanism

The acceleration of slider (link 6) can be calculated through Eq.(1) as:

·· 2 2
d = − aα22sinθ22 − aω22 cosθ22 + bα32 sinθ32 + bω32 cosθ32 ——(1)

Here, α22 , θ22 , and ω22 are the angular acceleration, angular displacement, and angular
velocity of link 4, respectively. Note that the first subscript states the type of link, while
second shows the mechanism number (1 for four bar and 2 for crank-slider). Similarly,
α32, θ32, and ω32 are the angular acceleration, angular displacement, and angular velocity
of link 5, respectively. The angular acceleration of link 5 can be estimated by Eq.(2) as:

2 2
aα22cosθ22 − aω22 sinθ22 + bω32 sinθ32
α32 = ——(2)

b cosθ32

Step 2: Position, velocity, and acceleration analyses of four bar mechanism

Position analysis:

a = 30 mm, b = 50 mm, c = 80 mm, d = 35 mm, θ21 = 110 degrees

K1 = 1.1666, K2, 0.4375, K3 = 1.255, A = -0.1039, B = -1.879, C = 2.913

K4 = 0.7, K5 = 0.5916, D = -0.677, E = -1.879, F = 1.86

B 2 − 4AC
( )
−B +
θ41 = 2tan−1 = -174.13 degrees

2A

E 2 − 4DF
( )
−E +
θ31 = 2tan−1 = -148.53 degrees

2D
Velocity analysis

ω21 = 20 rad/sec

aω21sin(θ41 − θ21) 585.410

ω31 = = = 26.93 rad/sec

b sin(θ31 − θ41) 46.985

aω21sin(θ21 − θ31) −76.654
ω41 = = = 17.01 rad/sec

c sin(θ41 − θ31) −37.588

Acceleration analysis

α21 = 60 rad/sec^2

CE − BF −221,279.637
α41 = = = − 325.08 rad/sec^2

AE − BD −1879.2058
A = c sinθ41 = − 8.182, B = b sinθ31 = − 26.10

2 2 2
C = aα21sinθ21 + aω21 cosθ21 + bω31 cosθ31 − cω41 cosθ41 = − 10314.669

2 2 2
F = aα21cosθ21 − aω21 sinθ21 − bω31 sinθ31 + cω41 sinθ41 = 4671.005

D = c cosθ41 = − 79.58, E = b cosθ31 = − 42.645

Step 3: Similarities between the two mechanisms are:

θ41 = θ22 = − 174.13 degrees, ω41 = ω22 = 17.01 rad/sec,

α41 = α22 = − 325.08 rad/sec^2

Step 4: Position, velocity, and acceleration analyses of crank-slider mechanism

Position analysis to calculate θ32

For the crank-slider mechanism: a = length of link 4 from B0 to C = (1/3)(80) = 26.66 mm,
b = length of link 5 = 90 mm, c = 20 mm

a sinθ22 − c
θ32 = sin−1( ) = -14.63 degrees

Velocity analysis to calculate ω32

aω22cosθ22
ω32 = = - 5.18 rad/sec

b cosθ32

Acceleration analysis using Eqs.(2) and (1)

2 2
aα22cosθ22 − aω22 sinθ22 + bω32 sinθ32 −2572.592
α32 = = = 105.22 rad/sec^2

b cosθ32 83.173

Acceleration of a slider
·· 2 2
d = − aα22sinθ22 − aω22 cosθ22 + bα32 sinθ32 + bω32 cosθ32 = 6731.78 mm/sec
