Activity 3
Dispensing Price
1. The pharmacy department compounded 30 pieces of cough syrups. Total cost of the ingredient
per syrup is ₱60.00. The pharmacist used bottles which cost ₱15.00 each. Each bottle has its
own label - ₱10.00/label. If a 20% mark-up was added, compute for the dispensing price of the
products with % mark-up and minimum fee.
Dispensing Price = cost of ing. + (cost of ing. × % mark-up)
Syrup: 30 pcs × ₱ 60.00 = ₱ 1,800.00 DP= ₱ 2,550.00 + (₱ 2,550.00 × 20%)
Bottle: 30 pcs × ₱ 15.00 = ₱ 450.00 DP= ₱ 2,550.00 + ₱ 510.00
Label: 30 pcs × ₱ 10.00 = ₱ 300.00 DP= ₱ 3,060.00
₱ 2,550.00
2. Rx
Guaifenesin capsule
Signa. Take 1 capsule 3x a day for one week.
Dispense the needed medications to complete the medication order. Compute for the
dispensing price if each capsule costs ₱48.00 and a mark-up of 25%.
Dispensing Price = cost of ing. + (cost of ing. × % mark-up)
1 cap x 3 times a day = 3 caps/day DP = ₱ 1,008.00 + (₱ 1,008.00 × 25%)
3 caps/day x 7 days = 21 caps DP = ₱ 1,008.00 + ₱ 252.00
21 caps x ₱ 48.00 = ₱ 1,008.00 DP = ₱ 1,260.00
3. A prescription order calls for 35 pieces paper tablets. All the items will be placed in one paper
envelope. Compute for the dispensing price given the following data:
Anti-hypertensive drug/pptab: ₱25.00
Paper envelope: ₱12.75/envelope
Glassine Paper: ₱3.50 /paper
+ 50% mark-up
Dispensing Price = cost of ing. + (cost of ing. × % mark-up)
Anti-HTN drug/pptab: 35 pcs × ₱ 25.00= ₱ 875.00 DP= ₱ 1,443.75 + (₱ 1,443.75 × 50%)
Paper envelope: 35 pss × ₱ 12.75= ₱ 446.25 DP= ₱ 1,443.75 + ₱ 721.875
Glassine Paper: 35 pcs × ₱ 3.50= ₱ 122.50 DP= ₱ 2,165.63
₱ 1,443.75
4. The prescription calls for 500 mg of Drug B per capsule, 1 capsule four times a day for 3 days.
The standard dispensing fee for pharmacy is ₱5.50 per capsule. What is the dispensing price of
the Drug B capsules if one capsule of Drug B 1000 mg costs ₱10.75?
Dispensing Price = cost of ing. + (cost of ing. × % mark-up)
500 mg x 1 g x ₱ 10.75 = ₱ 5.375 3 days x 4 caps = 12 caps
1000 mg 1g 1 day
DP = (₱ 5.375 x 12) + (₱ 5.50 x 12)
DP = ₱ 64.50 + ₱ 66.00
DP = ₱ 130.50
5. Rx order: 15 pcs of 500 mg Drug A capsule
a. Acquisition cost of ingredient: Drug A – the quantity purchased from Company B is ₱1,500 per
50 g
b. Empty capsule shells: ₱3.00/capsule shell
60 mL wide-mouthed amber bottle - ₱15.00/bottle
*15 capsules should be placed in one bottle. Add 10% mark-up
Capsule shells: 15 pcs x ₱ 3.00 = ₱ 45.00
Bottle: 1 pc x ₱ 15.00 = ₱ 15.00
500 mg (1 g/1000 mg) = 0.5 g
₱ 1,500 : 50 g = X : 0.5 g
X = ₱ 1,500 (0.5 g)
50 g
X = ₱ 15 (15)
X = ₱ 225.00
Cost of ing. = ₱ 45.00 + ₱ 15.00 + ₱ 225.00
= ₱ 285.00
Dispensing Price = cost of ing. + (cost of ing. × % mark-up)
DP = ₱ 285.00 + (₱ 285.00 x 10%)
DP = ₱ 285.00 +₱ 28.50
DP = ₱ 313.50
