Substance abuse is the use of a drug in amounts or by methods which are
harmful to individuals or others. It is also known as drug abuse which can affect
aspects of a person’s life beyond their physical health.
In this learning activity sheet, you will learn about the present drug abuse
scenario in the Philippines, the risk and protective factors of substance use, and
analyze situations for the use and non-use of psychoactive substances.

internet or newsfeed on Facebook about drug-related crimes in the Philippines. Based on
the different articles that you have read or watched, write an essay about the present drug
scenario in our country. Include ways on how the government and society combat drug
syndicates and addiction. Limit your essay to 150-200 words.
ACTIVITY 3: Risk and Protective Factors
The use, misuse, and abuse of drugs are the result of various factors surrounding
a person. These factors either increase or decrease the possibility of a person to use
drugs.
Risk factors are those influences which increase the chances of using, misusing,
and abusing drugs. Protective factors, on the other hand, are those influences which
decrease the chances of using, misusing, and abusing drugs.
Below is a table of the domains of life which affects drug use and abuse. Write the
