End Grinding Machine Foundation Design

The document contains load calculations for the design of an end grinding machine foundation. It calculates the total static load of 73.238 metric tons based on the weights of the various foundation parts and machine. Applying a dynamic loading factor of 2.5 results in a total effective load of 183.095 metric tons. The required foundation area is calculated as 14.084 square meters, which is less than the actual area provided of 29.1 square meters. It is determined that the designed foundation loading of 6.291 metric tons per square meter is below the soil's bearing capacity of 13 metric tons per square meter. Therefore, the designed foundation satisfies the soil condition requirements.

LOAD CALCULATIONS

• Part -1 (Raft for the Foundation)

Area of the part-1 = 29.1 m2

Thickness of the Raft = 0.6 m

Density of the concrete = 25 kN/m3

Total weight of the part-1 = 29.1 x 0.6 x 25 = 436.5 kN.

= 436.5 / 9.81 = 44.495 MT

• Part-2 (Small Trench of 230mm Deep)

Machine Foundation

Area of Trench = 5.28 m2

Depth of Trench = 0.23 m

Total weight of the part-2 = 5.28 x 0.23 x 25 = 30.36 kN.

= 30.36 / 9.81 = 3.095 MT

• Part-3 (Foundation for Crane)

Area of Foundation = 1.87m x 2.05 m = 3.8335 m2

Total Thickness of Foundation part = 1.3 m

Net Thickness of Foundation = 1.3 m - 0.6 m of Raft = 0.7 m

Total weight of the part-3 = 3.8335 x 0.7 x 25 = 67.086 kN.

= 67.086 / 9.81 = 6.838 MT

• Static Weight of the Machine

Front Side parts weight = 12500 Kg

Back Side parts weight = 12500 Kg

Total static weight of the machine = 12500 + 12500 = 25000 Kg = 25 MT

Total weight of the Foundation = weight of Part-1 - Weight part-2 + weight of part-3

+ Static weight of M/C

Therefore, Total weight exerted on soil = 44.495 MT – 3.095 MT + 6.838 MT + 25 MT

= 73.238 MT

Assuming Dynamic loading factor of 2.5

Effective weight exerted on soil = 73.238 MT x 2.5 = 183.095 MT

Soil bearing capacity = 13 MT / m2 as per data provided.

Therefore, Area of foundation required = Total weight exerted on soil / SBC

= 183.095 / 13 = 14.084 m2

< Actual area provided i.e. 29.1 m2

Soil upward pressure = 183.095 / 29.1

= 6.291 MT/m2

Soil investigation report derives the SBC as 13 MT/m2 at the depth of 1.8m; and the soil is
loaded with 6.291 MT/m2 due to Static weight of foundation with machine accessories &
also dynamic component of ‘2.5’; which is far below the permissible loading of 13MT/m2.

The machine foundation as designed by the manufacturer satisfies the norms for proposed
location with SBC 13 MT/m2.

Hence, the designed foundation is fit for this soil condition.

However we suggest some soil stabilization process to be adopted before the actual
foundation work starts as follows
