ÂM /eə/
Our presentation is divided into 3 main parts. Let’s begin by playing a game.
Congratulations, you all did very well. After that, we gonna discover: 1. How to
make the sound /eə/
I”ll start with some general information: This is a diphthong sound which means it
is a combination of two vowel sounds that are pronounced within the same
syllable. The /eә/ sound is a combination of /e/ and /ә/.
Unlike with vowels and consonants, when you pronounce a diphthong sound, your
mouth will change position and shape as you say the sound, because they combine
two vowel sounds.
So as you say the eə sound your mouth will start on the position of the /e/ sound
and finish on the position of the /ә/ sound.

ear /ɪə(r)/: tai
beer /bɪə(r)/: bia
engineer /ˌendʒɪˈnɪə(r)/: kỹ sư
Now, Let me introduce some background information about the sound to you:
/ɪə/ is a diphthong sound which means it is a combination of two vowel sounds that
are pronounced within the same syllable. Like vowels the diphthongs are all made
through the mouth and are voiced which means that you vibrate your vocal chords
to make the sound.
Unlike with vowels and consonants, when you pronounce a diphthong sound, your
mouth will change position and shape as you say the sound, because they combine
two vowel sounds.
* There are steps for you to pronounce it correctly:
- Step 1: Spread your lips with the tongue high and make the sound /ɪ/
- Sep 2: Let the corner of the mouth come together. The tongue is also down in a
relaxed position. At the same time, make the sound /ə/ -> /ɪə/
* For instance:
ear /ɪər/
hear /hɪər/
beer /bɪər/
clear /klɪər/
year /jɪər/
*Then we will practice with words
really /ˈrɪəli/
cheerful /ˈtʃɪəfl/
career /kəˈrɪər/
engineer /endʒɪˈnɪər/
superior /suːˈpɪəriər/
* with sentences as well
