Title of Artifact: Learning Styles Profile and Multiple Intelligence Survey
(Explain what you did to complete this assignment/artifact and how this artifact best
represents this particular InTASC standard, Course Competency and Essential Learning
Outcome.)
Between the group we all came up with different parts of the lesson plan and mine was
the first two parts which was Anticipatory and then Objective and Purpose which I
made the start of the lesson plan to grab the kids attention by having the students
stand up in a line to represent the planets from the Sun to Mars and have a ball to
represent the different size between them and how far apart they are to each other.
Having the kids up moving around and interacting engages the mind to then learn
about the hand out paper with facts about each planet. Fun facts that are easy to learn
make it more comfortable for kids to engage into large idea concepts like Planets and
the Solar system.
Moving on past that then comes Input with displaying the planets in order on a white
board and repeating the planets over and over to build consistent recognition and the
fun facts about temperature and how many days are in a year and compare that to
Earth.
Then Modeling starts with again reviewing the names of the planets and the difference
in size and how different each one is from the other.
Next Check for Understanding with question and answer segments to review the
information given so far to help retain what they have learned so far in class.
Then Guided Practice labeling planets with an online worksheet and then Independent
Practice to view the solar system and night scope with an online application.
Then finally Closure with a recap of the information and the steps in which they
learned them. Try not to overwhelm them with the whole picture but go over the
general idea of Planets and the Solar System and make them feel comfortable and
confident that they will have much more time and learning exercises that cover this
topic this year and years to come and that learning is endless with the phenomenon
gift we call our Solar System.
Reflection:
So to be completely honest I do like the idea of working in a large group to make this
lesson plan because it does show just how different people are in their own ways of
thinking and preparing and making something like a lesson plan. I love all the ideas for
each one of these parts but it will be much easier for me to flow through a lesson plan
when I make it from start to finish. That said I took away many great points and ideas
from the other members that I may not have thought of. I am not sure if this lesson plan is
meant to be broken down into a week long plan or just the one class period. I know the
assignment was to have it for one class but the more I go over it I don’t see how we could
fit all of the information and classroom activities into an hour or hour and a half
depending on scheduling so I would maybe tweak the plan and make it a two day plan if I
was going to teach it because there is so much good stuff here that I wouldn’t want to
rush the kids through it and also some kids learn at a different pace and trying to keep any
grade level on task and on the same page can be great at times and like herding cats the
next.
I have learned a lot from this reflection and will be able to take pieces of this and use it in
the future for my own class and my own lesson plans. The group did great and I was
lucky to have such hard workers and dedicated members in the class that I am sure will
be great teachers for our future kids.
