Research paper 1:
• Title: lessons from Vedic building science
• Author: Prof. Y.P. SINGH & PROF.RAJEEV PARASHAR
• Year of publishing: 2018
• Summary:
• Space was accepted to be made of vitality, this concurrence identified with
the five sorts of energies to be specific, space/ether, air fire, water and earth -
the “Panchbhootas”.
• They fit the home with the five barometrical states of earth, water, fire, air
and space. Vaastu Sastra is of the idea that home ought to be arranged in a
way with the end goal that positive powers supersede negative powers, which
prompts an idealistic common question field.
• Exploration of design remains on the accompanying five essential standards:
o Diknirnaya: The reasoning of Orientation.
o Vasthu-Pada-vinyaasa: Site arranging; The Vasthu Purusha Pattern.
o Maana: Hastalakshana: the relative estimation of structures.
o Aayaadi-Sadvarga: The six ordinances of Vedic subject.
o Pataakaadi-Sadschandas: The nature of the building, its viewpoint and
prospect

• Title: Comparison of Vastu Shastra with Modern Building
Science
• Author: Reeta Gupta
• Year of publishing: 2016
• Summary:
o Shape of Building: Rectangular ,square ,Circular ,hexagonal and
cow faced (Less broad in the front and more broad on the back
side) are considered good. Triangular ,long bar shaped, bow
shaped & oval are considered bad. Modern building science:
Rectangular and square plots are common. Different shape is
welcome as its breaks monotony. More sides mean more
exposure to natural agencies, which is desirable.
o Bed Room: Provide in South. Modern building science: In hot &
arid zone South-west, south is the direction of breeze in summer
hence bedrooms must be provided in this direction with veranda
to avoid heating of bedroom walls.
o Kitchen: Provide in South-east. Modern building science: East or
north east as morning sunrays falling on it are hygienic. It may be
provided in south east.
o W.C.: Provide in South, Southwest. Modern building science: Do
not provide in South West which is the direction of breeze.
o Pooja (Worship room): Provide in North-East. Modern building
science: provide in east, allows natural light to seep in.
o Dining Room: Provide in West.
o Drawing room: Provide in North or North west.

Research paper 3:
• Title: The principles of Vastu as a traditional architectural belief system
• Author: H. Fazeli & A. Goodarzi
• Year of publishing: 2010
• Summary:
o The principles of magnetic poles : Based on Vastu guidelines, the northeast section of any
property should be built lighter and in a lower level compared to the southwest section to
receive the beneficial effects of magnetism in its highest level and to facilitate the smooth flow
of magnetic waves without any hindrance.
o The principles of concentric zones: based on the studies, square is the best geometrical shape in
economical and structural considerations followed by rectangle since it requires the lesser
amount of construction materials on its periphery while providing the broader inner area
compared to other geometrical figures.
o The principles of sun-rays: every function in the dwelling area used to have a suggested spatial
organization in the Vaastu Purusha mandala which was decided through having the knowledge
of the Sun Rays and their influences on the human health.
o The principles of Geopathic Zones: The Earth’s energy grid works through specific geometrical
patterns which follow certain symmetries. The grids meet at many intersecting points creating
a matrix which is very similar to acupuncture points of the human energy body. ancient
civilizations were aware of planetary grids and used to consider these energy fields during
construction. For example, in the Himalayas the houses of Buddhist monks are oriented due to
the BEM grids to be placed in the neutral zone.
Conclusion
• All recommendations of vastu shastra do not match with modern building science
recommendation. Vastu Shastra appears logical and scientific at some instances having valid and
logical reasons to justify its recommendations. Some of these appear superstitious.
• The recommendations of vastu shastra incorporated with modern building science may enhance
quality of life. Following vastu shastra recommendations may have positive psychological effect
on the owners and users.

analysis
• there are many principles in the Vastu Shastra science of architecture that are basically
designed regarding the environmental features which through the lack of knowledge
have considered symbolic or ritualistic by the later generations.
• However the observation of natural phenomena by the ancient philosophers leading to
the discovery of laws of nature and their impact on human health is the root cause of
the application of the principles of Vastu and its similar systems of beliefs in other
cultures as the sum knowledge, experienced by many generations.

JAWAHAR KALA KENDRA
• Architect: Charles Correa
• Location: Jaipur, Rajasthan
• Climate: hot semi-arid climate
• Description: Jawahar Kala Kendra is a museum of
arts and crafts located at Jaipur, India and built in
1986-91, launched by the government of India to
communicate India’s cultural and spiritual values
and to display its rich craft heritage. The geometry
of the layout plan is derived from traditional
Hindu architecture based on self-similar squares
(Mandalas) derived from ancient Hindu texts
(Vedic Shastras) dating back to 1500-500 BC.
These squares are the abstraction of cosmos in
geometrical form where architecture is perceived
as a bridge between cosmos and man - the model
of "cosmic man" (Vastupurusha Mandala).
Chandigarh
• Architect: le Corbusier
• Climate: composite climate
• Description: The industrial area,
according to Vaastu, is suitably located
in the southeast belt, governed by
Agni, which symbolizes fire; in the
case of industry, Agni (fi re)
symbolizes the use of electricity,
energy, power. Lastly, according to
Vaastu, the south and west directions
are favorable places for living
purposes. Thus, residential buildings
are located in the southwest, south
and west zones of the city.

Vastu house
• The space planning in this house was designed in
harmony with the Vastu orientation and
placement concept called Vastu Purusha
Mandala .
• To design within a dictated predetermined rigid
locations specified as per Vastu yet to arrive at a
visually stunning and aesthetic architecture was
the biggest challenge of this project.
• Rising lazily from the North East which was the
lowest point to South East which was the highest
point of the house, it was built on soft split levels.
• The Master bedroom is located in the Earth
Zone(SW),the location of the kitchen is in the
fire zone(SE)and in the zone of water and air(N
and NE) was placed the swimming pool. The
main door was in the North East and the
Children's bedroom was in the West. Even the
position the staircase, the orientation of the bed,
study table and wardrobe and position in the
bathroom lavatories were designed in
accordance of Vastu principles and the flow of
the energy.

Bellad House
• The house, conceived for Hubli businessman Arvind
Bellad and his family is set amongst a one acre
wooded property in north Karnataka.
• The Bellad’s wanted a home with few
programmatical requirements but with the ease of
large rambling open spaces and the privacy of a
central courtyard. There was also a requirement to
adhere to the principles of Vastu, the ancient Indian
science of energy flow and placement.
• It The use of vernacular sloping tiled roofs ; a low
structure with an expanse of terracotta clay tiles on
the roofs would be in harmony with the natural
surroundings.
• The entrance driveway lazily winds from the
northeast corner of the site and culminates at a
freestanding tiled roof entrance portico. The south
and west wings of the house comprise of the
bedrooms that lead to bathrooms overlooking their
respective landscaped courts.

CONCLUSION
• Settlement designs which prompt asset proficient moderate transport designs
• giving fundamental needs, for example, water-supply, sanitation and waste-handling
and reusing frameworks, By changing building and arranging codes supporting little
scale creation forms and by advancing the utilization Of indigenous building materials
and proper development innovations.
• By executing contamination control measures and changes in accordance with
estimating structures, so that these add to Maintainability and to improvement
objectives; The basics of Vaastu Shastra depend on minimal effort design at a
decreased ecological cost, with low ascent, high-thickness urban regions
• The building science has its presence all over the world in different forms and they all
have their own principles. From Vitruvius theory to feng shui to Vastu shastra all the
sciences from different part of the world but have the same message. The main purpose
of building science is to lay down some guidelines for the architects to design building in
harmony with the nature and taking advantage of the prevailing natural gifts of sunlight
,wind, cosmic energy to make a habitat which is beneficial to the inmates and make
their life happy and prospect .
