A day in the life of

What cameras do you use and why?

AGATA Do you have a particular technique

that’s your favourite when taking
fashion pictures?

STOINSKA My first camera was a Canon and I

stayed with this brand for years. At
some stage I also got a Mamiya,
medium format camera with digital
back. Unfortunately all my equipment
was stolen a year ago so I was left
only with my iPhone. I was probably
the only photographer in Ireland with
no cameras at all but that gave me an
opportunity to try something else and
I swapped to Nikon. To be honest it
doesn’t really make much difference for
me if I work on Canon or Nikon. I miss
my Mamiya though but I wouldn’t mind
to swap it this time for a Hasselblad.
More important for me is the lens I am
using – I love bright 85mm for fashion.
In terms of lighting I really adore natural
light and even using studio lighting I
often try to recreate the natural light.

If you could go back in time and teach

yourself something that would have
made your career as a photographer
easier, what would it be?

I am still learning so there is no need

for me to go back to the past but just
keep rediscovering myself and keep
my mind open.

Do you have any advice for

photographers that are starting out in
their career?

Take lots of photos, discuss your work

with other photographers, explore other
disciplines of art, don’t stop searching
for new ideas and take inspirations
from everything what surrounds you.
Have fun!
Provide us some illustrations of how your work have transformed over the years as an Working next to a great cinematographer Marcin Koszalka I have learnt how to tell the story through the images. I think
over the years depending on my mood my photography is more graphic or more story telling.
architect as well as a photographer?
Studying and later working as an architect had a huge impact on my way of seeing the world, and how I frame it. I
always look for connection between the photographed object and its surroundings. My recent fashion shoot which
has been styled by a great stylist Tanya Grimson was expressing the dialog between fashion and architecture. As

visible in most of my photographs.

a still photographer in a polish movie called The Welts.

You’re also a fully qualified architect, do you bring your architectural knowledge
into your photography, if so tell us how?
I think it’s very useful for any photographer to have a background in some other subject as well. There are many
photographers who were practicing some other creative discipline before they have discovered what they really
wanted to do. This leaves always some trace on their way of taking photos. I take photos a similar way as I would
be designing a building. Composition, sense of space and light are key elements which I took from being an architect.

You have a crazy amount of great editorials shot for different magazines – What would
you say is your favorite shoot you have done and why? What were your main inspirations
in that shoot?

common. The ones I enjoyed the most are those which haven’t been commissioned but they were just a spontaneous
ideas turned into weeks of collective work with the most talented people in this industry in Ireland. Seen by Scene,
Adornment, Uncommon Threads or Wilderness, they are projects made with no budgets but with passion and great
spirit. Working on shoots like these reminds me how lucky I am.

I think people who have found what their purpose in life is, what they want to do in their life, who discovered what their
passion is, they are the happiest ones and if they only allow themselves, their way through life even though would be full
of long working hours would be as well very enjoyable and rewarding. I think I am one of those lucky people.

Who’s your favorite fashion photographer? Or have you got a particular photo that you
saw and fell in love with?
I always loved mysterious - dream like photographs by Paulo Roversi or Sarah Moon, dark and sexy ones by Peter
Lindbergh or Steven Meisel and great stories telling by Bruce Weber.

NOELL OSZVALD
Growing up did you always know you wanted to be a photographer, if so who were you
influenced by? What first inspired you to become a photographer?

I wouldn’t to call myself a photographer just yet. I hope one day I’ll become one.

Who’s your favourite photographer? Or have you got a particular photo that you saw
and fell in love with?

Where does the inspiration for your images come from?

If I sit down and try to think of a concept it never really works like that. Most of my ideas were just spontaneous. They
appeared when I wasn’t forcing it and then I had to improve and plan them.
Who would you most like to work with/photograph and why?
With Andrei Tarkovsky. I wish he was still alive; I would love to learn from him.

You started to experiment with digital painting and then making photo manipulations
which led you to photography. Which do you enjoy most and why, tell us in great details?
Digital painting and photo manipulation were great to experiment with but I want to focus more on photography in the
future. I recently made this big bird out of paper, just so I can recreate one of my photomontages as a photograph.

What cameras do you use and why? Do you have a particular technique that’s your
favourite when taking fine art pictures?
I use a starter Canon dslr; it was a present for my 19th birthday.
If you could direct a movie and travel anywhere in the world, what sort of movie would

MORGAN
Q2: Morgan was established in 1973 by Nan Morgan and nearly 40 years later is still
running. Can you explain more to us about that transition in great details?
Nan set up from home in September 1973 and very soon moved into the current day premises of 13 Herbert Place.
Her daughter Rebecca joined her in 1979/80. Together with the other agencies in Dublin Nan formed the Irish Model
Agencies Association and liaised with the advertising practitioners to set out ground rules for operating within the

/ THE AGENCY
INTERVIEW
industry. In 1992, Nan Morgan Models brought in Brand Models and was renamed as Morgan Brand Models making
the agency the largest in Ireland. Then when Eddie Shanahan was lured into the retail sector again by Arnotts he co-
ordinated with Rebecca the passing over of the management of the models he had represented to Morgan and the
agency became Morgan The Agency

Q1: What does a day in the life of Morgan The

Agency, Rebecca Morgan and Jacqui Turner
consist of?

phone calls relating to jobs, model enquiries, updates etc. Some

days would have castings or meetings with clients or new
faces. Most work is done on the phone both incoming and
outgoing where we would be setting up go sees for models or
promoting talent to existing or prospective clients.

Q3: Morgan The Agency is one of Ireland’s

leading model agencies, what are the major
reasons for your success?
I believe the work ethic has a lot to do with that. How we treat
people is very important to us. Over the years we have earned
the respect of our clients and the models we represent through
dealing with both with respect and fairness. We have moved
with the times - and have developed a great window to show
our talent through our website and through the social media
Q4: How have Morgan The Agency changed since it was founded back in 1973? Q10: If you could offer an aspiring model one piece of advice, what would it be?
One of the main changes is in how many of our models travel the world modeling now compared to then. We are fully Be yourself, keep yourself in really good shape and trust your gut!

Q11: Lastly any upcoming projects we should look out for?

Look out for Thalia Heffernan hitting the London market! She is with Premier
Q5: Who was the most exciting discovery of your career?
Linda Byrne was the most exciting because it all happened so fast for her and it was brilliant to see her on the front
cover of Vogue

Q6: Have you done a lot of street casting yourself?

I am always on the lookout, even when I am out socially. Dublin is so small a lot of ‘discoveries’ just walk in and we are

Q7: Where’s the best place or city to scout new faces?

Universities in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Limerick are good but a huge amount of talent comes from Belfast or the
environs of. We have 3-4 really good girls from Belfast currently

Q8: What sort of boys and girls does Morgan The Agency usually go for?
Models with a natural look – more editorial than commercial but with good basic features

Q9: Who’s your favorite new face from the autumn/winter shows?
Sasha Luss
