October’s format was men’s and women's doubles. e women
played at Shorebird and the men at Quay, but due to some last
minute dropouts, the draw had to be abandoned. Steve George
stepped up to put together five sets on the fly for the men and
Robin George did the same for the women. Tournament
winners were Sarah Ehler and Brandon McKenna. Social
director Barb urrutia planned an after-tournament lunch social
at the Grill House, where everyone sat outside and enjoyed GH
specialties, especially the signature hamburgers and beer or cider.

e final tournament of the season was played on november 13.
Again there were some last-minute changes. Because Shorebird
and other courts were too wet for playing, everyone ended up at
Quay. e team tennis format, originally planned for 8-game
sets, was abbreviated to 5 games, so everything went very fast.
e Harvest team (captained by Monique Seibel and consisting
of Juan Gargiulo, Robin George and Mukta Sood) racked up
31 games, beating out the Rakes and the Bonfire (28 games each)
as well as the Leafblowers (20 games). e winning team received
pocket-sized 2022 planners. anks to prize shopper Kathy Miles
and especially to tournament director Karen Brodersen.
Once again the social was held at our local Redwood Shores sports
bar, the Grill House, with the majority of players attending.
ough we now bid farewell to tournaments until March of next
year, our RSTC players will continue their passion for tennis on
their own throughout the winter, as weather permits. Our next
event will be the annual Membership Mania in March. Watch

At the wastewater treatment plant, the Front of Plant project continues to make great progress. Manifold piping, pump isolation
valves and ventilation ducting has been installed. Significant work has occurred in the Receiving Lift Station (RLS) so it’s really
getting in shape and looking like a lift station!
Our design-build partner, Shea-Parsons, has installed structural framing above the (2) 60-inch diameter RLS pump manifold to
support aluminum grating and handrailing that will serve as the maintenance platform. is platform, when completed, will
allow SvCW’s Operations and Maintenance staff to gain access to, and perform regular maintenance activities on the manifold
instrumentation, the RLS pumps, and associated equipment. In addition to this maintenance platform at the bottom of the
RLS shaft, SPJv installed a mezzanine level (i.e., at a shaft depth mid-way from the bottom) controls and observation platform.
SPJv will be constructing the final connection between the Surge and Flow Splitter (SFS) shaft and the RLS manifold piping.
Once the connection is complete, wastewater can flow from the new gravity pipe tunnel, through channels at the bottom of the
SFS shaft to the six RLS pumps connected to the manifold. e RLS pumps will lift the raw wastewater to the new headworks
for preliminary treatment prior to flowing to the existing wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) influent channel.

now that tunneling is complete, work on the Gravity Pipeline project has turned to installing the pipe inside the tunnel and
making the connection between the drop shaft and the tunnel. e drop shaft is located near SvCW’s San Carlos Pump Station
site adjacent the airport. rough this shaft, wastewater from both San Carlos and Belmont will flow into the tunnel to the
wastewater treatment plant. FRP pipe installation in the second-drive tunnel is a bit more challenging compared to the first-
drive tunnel due to the longer distance and the curvature in the final alignment. e pipe transporter/installer must navigate
the curves with a 20,000 lb, 20-ft long section of FRP pipe supported on the transporter beam, moving the pipe segment into
position to form a tight joint seal with the adjacent sections of pipe. Quite a feat!

Construction work on the Belmont gravity Pipeline (BgP) along Shoreway
Road in Belmont and San Carlos continues. SvCW’s contractor partner, Shea
Parsons Joint venture (SPJv), has completed the initial microtunneling drive,
and is conducting restoration work at the first microtunnel jacking shaft (JS1).
near the existing San Carlos Pump Station (SCPS), SPJv continues work on
the southern-most of the microtunnel receiving shafts (RS4). Learn more by
