The following 2 instances caused friction between Lisa and her colleagues Linton &
Scoville –

1). Linton – It was during Lisa’s first day in office when Linton explicitly mentioned in a
firm tone that “She did not have an MBA herself; she has reached this level by working
hard 7 years. She doesn’t like MBA’s because MBA’s behave like they know a lot more
than they do.”

This statement and Linton’s disinterested welcome was the friction point.

2). Scoville – Scoville also mentioned that he does not like Harvard MBAs when he took
Lisa out for lunch. He also possesses a condescending attitude and was acting like an
overbearing big brother. He also assigned copying activities which also, according to me,
created friction.

Benton to do some copying for him while he
made some last-minute correction on the
marketing plan. This showed poor planning
and perseverance.

Extraversion LOW He doesn’t mingle well with other


department workers. This was evident
when he doesn’t join t h e m f o r l u n c h .

Agreeableness LOW When he said that he had an aggressive, no


nonsense style and absolutely no patience for
politics, this shows that he is not so friendly.

Neuroticism HIGH He implied that homecare was a highly


structured environment with many rules, that
Lisa had to follow, and she had to stay late so
she need to come early.
Lisa could have said that she is impressed with his progress on his own, and she wants to
learn from him.

Lisa could have asked him for the help, and sometimes do his help .

Linton failed to recognize Lisa’s core strengths during Lisa’s performance evaluation.
This left Lisa disappointed. This situation represents the Hidden Area of the Johari
window.

Lisa can reduce this area and improve her relationship with Linton by

1). Lisa should come out of the learner mode and take initiative and make her
opinions known.

In Lisa's performance review, Linton described Lisa as "unassertive" and "lacking in

can do hard work and make her reputation in the eyes of her boss.
