CSR PROPOSAL REPORT
1.0 INTRODUCTION
For every country, poverty issues such as no shelter, food, water and other basic needs
are inevitable regardless of how high the development level of a country improves. This is
caused by the constant fluctuations of the nation economy where the prices of basic living needs
can become too expensive for certain individuals and the problem of unemployment where the
rate may increase if left unfixed.
Malaysia is included as one of the countries with poverty issues as there are people living
on the streets around Kuala Lumpur up until now. As fellow human beings and Muslims, it is our
responsibility to help them in improving their life by giving away free food and since The
Scrumptious Roti is founded by IIUM students, we will also focus on our fellow peers.
According to a survey carried out by Muslim Volunteer Malaysian Association (MVM) on
25,632 students from six public universities, found that 57% of them saying that they allocate
RM5 a day for food, 44% survive on instant noodles while 41% eat only rice with fried egg and
sauce. The survey was conducted on students from different universities such as Universiti
Teknologi Mara, Universiti Malaya, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM),
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Utara Malaysia and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn
Malaysia.
Therefore, The Scrumptious Roti and a non-governmental organization (NGO), The Nasi
Lemak Project (TNLP), have decided to organize a corporate social responsibility event that
includes giving away free bread to 300 needy people. This CSR project is called the “1 Bread,
Big Smile” project and it will be carried out with high ambition that our small contribution and
5
effort can make a difference in terms of giving these less fortunate people some hope in this
world.

The aim of this project is to increase public awareness on the current societal issues, help
alleviate poverty through feeding the less fortunate people and to promote humanity among
people.
3.0 SCOPE
The project focuses not only in IIUM community consisting of students with financial
problems and cleaners but also others such as homeless outside the campus, school kids and
unemployed individuals. To complete this project, the team will be splitting into two where the
first team will be in charge on the preparation of the food while the second team will oversee the
distribution process.

7.0 CONCLUSION
In short, this CSR Project of “1 Bread, Big Smile” will benefit our companies in terms of
our images and reputations but we are also fulfilling our responsibility to help less fortunate
people as vicegerents in this world. Allah says: "O you who believe! Spend out of what We have
given you" (2:254) which basically means that Muslims should give away a part of their wealth
to charity. Muslims in general must remember to the key to successful business is by
maintaining a good relationship with Allah (SWT) which will help generate more profits and
provide benefits to everyone involved and the environment as well.
When an individual or a company takes the initiative to help those who are less fortunate,
it contributes into creating a well loving and caring society and this also acts as an example for
others to contribute to the communities as well. In addition, The Scrumptious Roti plans to
include more corporate social responsibilities (CSR) projects in the future by organizing more
9
events and campaigns which will not only benefit our target markets but also as a training for our
employees by instilling a sense of responsibility towards helping everyone who is in difficulties.

Appendix 1 (Memorandum)
MEMO
To: Madam Zaleha Esa
From: Aina Syahiera Noresam, Chief Marketing Officer The Scrumptious Roti
Date: 25th November 2016
Subject: Report on Company Trip to The HQ of The Nasi Lemak Project (NGO)
The purpose of this memo is to inform you about our visit to the headquarter of The Nasi Lemak Project
located at Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur. The aim of the visit was to gain knowledge on the know hows and
the potential benefits of our future corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects.
The Nasi Lemak Project is a non-profit organization (NGO) whose objective is to provide free meals for
the homeless people around Kuala Lumpur, Klang Valley and other urban areas. These places are well
known as hot spots for these less fortunate and need people due to the high cost of living.
The details of the visit are as followed:
Date: 10 November 2016
Venue: The Nasi Lemak Project Headquarter, Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur
We met with Encik Muhammad Rahman, whom actively involved in organizing the charity events with
TNLP’s founder Miss Masturah, who is also an alumni of International Islamic University Malaysia.
TNLP was officially registered as an official NGO back in 2014 and their charity activities usually last for
three days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday which began with the preparation of the nasi lemak and the
distribution of the free meals around potential places such as Chow Kit, Masjid Jamek, Istana Budaya,
Brickfields and Setapak.
One of the questions asked was regarding the inspiration that Encik Muhammad had and he was
inspired to help people after getting involved with programs under the United Nation (UN). From his
experience, Encik Muhammad recommened TNLP to also create a teaching division for homeless
children. Several teaching projects of TNLP include Teater Dataran Underground, Enrich Poor People.
For Theatre Dataran Underground where homeless children will be given opportunities to join the play
11
and become actors. The objective of this program is to increase their self-esteem and build confidence
besides giving them, their opportunities to raise their own money. Meanwhile, Enrich Poor People
programs were put in motions in the end of 2014 where poor people were given job opportunities of
providing catering services to potential customers. This initiative helps them to develop their
entrepreneurship skills which has become the main agenda of TNLP for the past few years.
During our interview session, Encik Muhammad mentioned about the latest achievement of TNLP they
just won Muhammad Ali Humanitarian United State Award. This provided them USD 20,000 grant
money to cater the needs of TNLP projects.
The visit and interview session went smoothly where we received excellent knowledge and insights to
help us with our own CSR projects where Encik Muhammad also provided us with his own ideas and full
support.
Thank you.
