Mill PF Notes

The document outlines specifications for angles and slope settings for a chute system, emphasizing that angle ɑ should not exceed 40 degrees and angle β should be no less than 15 degrees. It highlights the importance of proper mill settings and the impact of cane quality on chute performance, noting that extraneous material can lead to choking. Recommendations include adjusting the Donnelly chute opening and reducing imbibition rates in the presence of trash to prevent operational issues.

Angle ɑ should not be greater then 40o ( Rod Cullen notes less than 40 Deg)

Angle β should not be less then  15o  limiting factor is 13o (Rod Cullen notes 15 to 18
Deg)

The slope of the chute should be nearly ¾” per ft, of the chute length. ( Rod Cullen notes
value couldnot able to find, I will check and inform you)

Mill Setting. If the pressure feeder opening is wide, it will introduce more bagasse in the
chute than the mill can possibly accept. The extra material will accumulate in the
pressure chute which will obviously result in its choking.

Donnelly Chute

Setting of the Donnelly chute at the bottom is very important. Due to lesser compaction
of the pressure feeder, large opening of the Donnelly chute will deliver extra material in
the pressure chute, which will not be accepted by the mill. The accumulation of such
extra material will choke the pressure chute. One the other hand, small opening will not
allow the required material to flow in to the mill. This will hamper the whole equipment
performance.

Mill Roller Arcing & Roughening

Discharge mill rollers need special attention for roughening. The slip if discharge
roller will reduce the material travel into the mills, which will again result in the
accumulation of material in the chute. We also recommend that key chevron should also
be cut on feed and top mill rollers and both pressure feeder rollers, it will help the system
when the arcing becomes weaker.

Quality of sugar cane

All mill setting are worked out on a certain cane quality. Extraneous material with cane
increases total fibrous material content and as such it is very dangerous for the operation
of pressure chutes. If it is trash (which is usual) it will increase the mill slippage and
reduce mill feed ability while pressure feeder will keep on feeding the material in the
pressure chute. This positive feeding effect of the pressure feeder as compared to the mill
will choke the chute. In this case, feed depth of the Donnelly chute be decreased
proportionate to the extraneous material and reduction in the imbibition rate and
temperature is also recommended.

Incase of trash coming with cane, imbibition rate and temperature should be reduced to
avoid mill slippage.

All internal sides of the pressure chute should be lined with stainless steel to reduce
friction.
