Activity Report - Introduction To Stat

This 3-day virtual workshop provided an introduction to statistical analysis in public health using the software JAMOVI and JASP. Over 150 participants from various public health and medical backgrounds attended. The workshop covered topics such as measures of disease frequency, risk, and association. It also covered statistical tests like t-tests, ANOVA, chi-squared tests, logistic regression, and survival analysis. Participants learned how to use JAMOVI to perform these analyses on public health and medical data. The workshop aimed to equip participants with statistical analysis skills without using SPSS.

Workshop-webinar title: INTRODUCTION TO STATISTICAL ANALYSIS IN PUBLIC HEALTH

(With JAMOVI Hands-on Application Tutorials)
Venue: Virtual via Zoom
Organized by: STRATEGIC ONE BUSINESS MANAGEMENT CONSULTANCY FIRM
Yakal Road, Tunasan, Muntinlupa City
Tel. no: 02-8-801-5903/09984604375
Schedule: November 3-5, 2021

Introduction
This 3-day virtual workshop was designed to adapt to the current challenges of the pandemic. This
course applies to the following individuals:
• Public/government health practitioners/scholars, medical workers.
• Academicians who are doing and teaching research and statistics in the field of health science
and medicine.
• Private sectors, who are involved in public health.
• Non-governmental organizations.
• Students (undergraduate and graduate level in health science/medicine).

Course Description:
This course is an introduction to the fundamental building blocks of statistical analysis - variables,
common distributions, and hypothesis testing. It also teaches how to take a data set to the next level,
describe its key characteristics, learn about its strengths and weaknesses, perform some critical basic
analyses, and then formulate and test hypotheses based on means and proportions.
Participants enrolled in this workshop will experience how to use JAMOVI (freeware) in how to
formulate a testable hypothesis through instances of medical research. Further, participants will learn
how to interpret results in logistic regression and survival analysis models.

Course Objectives:
1. Perform statistical analysis NOT using SPSS, but using JAMOVI and JASP (these two are freeware).
2. Review of some principles of epidemiology in public health (bias and confounding).
3. Use JAMOVI (freeware) in Measuring Disease Frequency such as: incidence, prevalence, crude rates,
specific rates, and standardization.
4. Learn the measures of risk (Frequency measures, Morbidity, Mortality).
5. Learn when and how to perform logistic regression and survival analysis.

Webinar Topics
Day 1 (9am – 4pm)
1. Review of some principles of epidemiology in public health (Bias and confounding)
2. Descriptive measures using JAMOVI in application to Measuring Disease Frequency
• Incidence Prevalence
• Crude rates Specific rates Standardization
3. Measures of Risk (Frequency measures, Morbidity, Mortality)
4. Measures of Association (Absolute risk, Relative risk, Attributable risk, Population attribution
risk, number needed to treat)
5. Displaying public health data using technology
Day 2 (9am – 4pm)
1. Tests of Difference on Statistical Analysis of Cross-sectional Surveillance Data (t-tests, ANOVA)
2. Retrospective Cohort & Chi-squared test (Relative Risk)
3. Case Control & Chi-squared Test (Odds ratio)
4. Logistic Regression Analysis (binomial, multinomial, ordinal)
Day 3 (9am – 4pm)
1. Evaluating the Accuracy of the Screening Tests (sensitivity, specificity, NPV, PPV)
2. ROC/AUC in JAMOVI
3. Survival Analysis via JAMOVI
