Lab Report 10

This lab report summarizes an experiment conducted on a ring frame machine to change the yarn count from 14 Ne to 12 Ne. The key steps taken were: 1) Calculate the new draft, DCP, TPI, and twist values required for a count of 12 Ne based on formulas. 2) Install the calculated new DCP of 55T and twist wheel teeth of 41T on the machine. 3) Run the machine and check that the delivered yarn count was 12.8 Ne, close to the target of 12 Ne. Changing the yarn count required adjusting the draft and twist imparted by changing the number of teeth on the draft change pinion and twist wheel respectively

1 Title :
Preparation of given yarn count at RY-5 ring frame.

2 Abstract :

In this experiment, changing of count was carried out at RL-5 ring machine. The
calculation of draft and twist was also carried out according to count. Previous count was
14 Ne while new set count is 12 Ne.

3 Objectives:
 To change the count on ring frame.
 To calculate draft and DCP.
 To calculate twist and TW.

4 Introduction :
Ring Spinning is the oldest of the present day spinning processes. Fiber material is
supplied to the ring-spinning machine in the form of roving. The fiber mass of the roving
is reduced by a drafting unit. The twist inserted moves backwards and reaches the fibers
leaving the drafting unit. The fibers lay around one another in concentric helical paths.
The normal forces encountered by the fibers enhance the adhesive forces between the
fibers and prevent fibers from flying or slipping past each other under the tensile strain.
Ring spinning is a comparatively expensive process because of its slower production
speeds and the additional processes (roving and winding) required for producing ring
spun yarns. Ring spun yarns produce high quality and are mainly produced in the medium
range, with a small amount produced in the coarse count range.

Figure 1 Ring machine

4.1 Objective of Ring Frame

 To draft the roving fed to the ring frame to convert roving into very fine strand
called yarn.
3
 To impart strength to the yarn by inserting the necessary amount of twist.
 To collect twisted strand called yarn onto handy and transportable package by
winding the twisted thread on a cylindrical bobbin or tube.

4.2 Main Parts of Ring Frame

1. Creel
2. Roving guide
3. Drafting rollers
4. Top rubber cots
5. Top clearer rollers
6. Top apron
7. Bottom apron
8. Pneumaphil Suction Nozzle
9. Yarn guide (Snail Wire)
10. Plastic separator
11. Balloon controlling ring
12. Ring Traveler
13. Traveler clearer
14. Spinning Ring
15. Ring Spindle

5 Material, Tools & Equipment :

 RY-5 Ring frame
 Copy & pencil
 Opening tools
 Draft change pinion
 Twist wheel
 RY-5 manual

6 Procedure :

 First of all, check the set count on RY-5 ring frame.

 Then decrease 15% count from original count.
 After that calculate the draft an twist according to new count.
 Then find out the DCP and TW.
 Installed the new DCP and TW.
 Run the machine and check the yarn count again.

4
7 Observation & Calculation :

7.1 Old count parameters

 Delivered Count = 14/1

 Roving = 0.76 hank/roving
 Draft = 18.67
 DCP = 49T
 A,B = 54T , 65T
 TPI = 12.12
 TW = 48T
 Fine wheel = 105T
 E,F = 51T , 74T

7.2 New count parameter

 15% decrease in count of original count = 12 Ne

 Roving = 0.76 hank/roving
 Draft = 16.05
 Draft After 5% contraction factor = 16.85
 Delivered count = 12.8 Ne
 DCP = 55T
 A,B = 54T , 65T
 T.M = 4
 TPI = 14.31
 TW = 41T
 Fine wheel = 105T
 E,F = 51T , 74T

8 Results :
At 14 Ne, DCP was 49T and TW was 48T while at 12 Ne, the required DCP and TW
are 55T and 41T respectively.

9 Discussion :

The count defines the fineness or thickness of any yarn. To change the count of the
machine, we have to change the value of draft and by twist is also corresponds with
5
change in count. Draft is changed by changing number of teeth of DCP while the twist is
changed by changing number of teeth of twist wheel (T.W). The values of draft and twist
are defined at each specific number of teeth. By installing, sometime the required effect is
not achieved, the reason behind this is a contraction factor. As the twist is imparted in the
yarn, the length of yarn is reduced. So that the required amount of count is not achieved.
To avoid this problem, a contraction factor of about 5% is added to original value.

10 Conclusion :

After performing the practical, I concluded that by decreasing the count the draft
decrease while TPI increases. The number of teeth of DCP increase while teeth of twist
wheel decreases.
