Types of Curriculum in Schools
1. Recommended Curriculum These are recommendations in the form of
memoranda or policy, standards and
guidelines that came from government
agencies such as DepEd, CHED and
TESDA and professional organizations or
international bodies such as UNESCO.
2. Written Curriculum This includes documents based on the
recommended curriculum. They come in the
form of course of study, syllabi, modules,
books, instructional guides among others.
Example of written curriculum is the
teacher’s lesson plan.

3.Taught Curriculum The teacher and the learners will put life to
the written curriculum. The skill of the
teacher to facilitate learning based on the
written curriculum with the aid of
instructional materials and facilities is
necessary.
4. Supported Curriculum These are support materials that the teacher
needs, This includes print materials like
books, chats, worksheets and non-print
materials like PowerPoint presentation and
other electronic illustrations. It also includes
facilities like science laboratory and
playground.
5. Assessed Curriculum This is the curriculum that is evaluated after
it has been taught. It can either be
assessment for learning, assessment as
learning or assessment of learning. If the
process is to find the progress of learning,
then assessed curriculum is for learning, but
if it is to find out how much has been
learned or mastered, then it is assessment of
learning.
6. Learned Curriculum These are measured by tools in assessment,
which can indicate the cognitive, affective,
and psychomotor outcomes. Learned
curriculum also demonstrates higher order
and critical thinking and lifelong skills.
7. Hidden/Implicit Curriculum This is the unwritten curriculum – peer
influence, school environment, media,
parental pressures, societal changes, cultural
practices, natural calamities are some
factors that create hidden curriculum.

Why must the teacher be aware and sensitive e to the hidden curriculum?
Teacher must be aware of hidden curriculum because there are times that, what the
students learn outside is not appropriate for them. Sometimes they learn from their peers
that might not be good for them, and the teacher will be the one to correct them,
by being aware of hidden curriculum, teachers will be able to identify every factor that
causes the students to behave the wat they do and their practices.

curricula that are being use in our everyday life in school, and there are those that aren’t
visible but plays a big role, like the hidden curriculum’ which affects the student’s way of
learning and progress. Aside from learning in school, students also learn from their
environments, their home and their peers which affects how the students behave and interact
with one another.
Why do I need to know the different types of curricula?
Curriculum are very important, especially in our school where it was used to teach
and assess the learners. The reason why I need to learn about the different curricula in
school is that, as a student of education’ who pursue to become an educator. Curriculum
and the different types of curricula serves as a guide for us to stay on the right track, on
what we need to teach and how are we going to teach students, also for the purpose of
giving the right instruction on what the students need and what it should learn.
As a future educator we must see to it that whatever we teach must suit the needs of
the learners and their learning capabilities.
