Understanding Divine Revelations

The document discusses divine revelations and how they help people understand God and his teachings. It also talks about how the Holy Spirit passes down traditions and scriptures, and how revelations provide truth and correct misunderstandings. A speaker's testimony about becoming Catholic because of wanting to know the full truth increased the author's belief in their religion and divine revelations.

Reaction and Reflections 7

The topic for this reaction paper is all about “The Way of Christ: Divine Revelations”.
Before I reflected the video and the given materials, I first had my initial thoughts with it. I
first contemplated each word’s definition with “Divine” as something a sacred most high
belief of holiness and “Revelations” from the root word “reveal” which means to know or
witness. Combining it, I get the words “Good news” because anything relating to being
divine would mean a good thing being revealed and shared all throughout.

The first part of the video talked about how we, people perceive God. The speaker
said that we see Him as a cosmic soul or rather a bearded man who does all kinds of
miracles. What really captivated me was that there is no exact form of God. He is basically
all forms, an indescribable form, in which what all know of Him is that He loves us, He
revealed Himself to us, in order for us to have an eternal connection with Him. It directly
pointed out that it was actually the Divine Revelation, the truth that God wants us to know.
Although He didn’t reveal everything, this gives us the opportunity to discover it ourselves
along the way. This must be why people are granted free will.

What incited my curiosity is that how would people know that the Holy Spirit is
actually passing down teachings such as the Holy Eucharist, Sacraments, Sacred Scriptures
and Traditions? The only thing I can think of is that the Holy Spirit directly touches the
hearts and minds of the people and also visions by prophets. I see the Divine Revelations as
a guiding instrument for us to better understand God and his teachings as well as having
the desires to know and be known; to love and be loved. Though our love may not be
perfect, yet we strive for it by favouring what is good and avoiding what is bad as a result of
intellect and free will bestowed by the Holy Trinity itself.

I was touched by the testimony of the speaker because of her response of the
question, “What made you become a Catholic?” so that means she wasn’t a Catholic before?
This further implies that she voluntarily chose it for the sole reason of “Knowing the Full
Truth” wanting things to make sense. Her statements made me believe and trust more with
my religion and the Divine Revelations because not only it provides us the truth it corrects
our misunderstandings and false beliefs in our faith. It gives us the most important answers
that came directly from God Himself about our existence. Every now and then, I wonder
“What would it be like to pass on from this world?” “Where does our soul actually go?” “Are
we still be able to be conscious of our own existence?” “Does being reborn truly does exist
or are we directly judged by God?” such that these questions leads me to have fear and
insecurity yet I always hope and pray that God’s Divine Revelations would lead me to
understand my existence and purpose better.
