ABSTRACT

Workplace tragedies may significantly impact something or someone in the workplace

safety movement is crucial, a broad-based attempt to reduce accidents following growing
numbers of industrial disasters. We should stimulate and promote strong safety standards in
workplaces, especially to the people who would benefit from it that protects staff and the
workplace. These risks can have both physical and health consequences that are prone to the
people working. Your employer must ensure that your premises are safe and that your safety and
wellbeing are not compromised. You are responsible for the care and security of your own, and
you should also be careful not to jeopardize other individuals.

A large percentage of workplace accidents and injuries occur in office buildings. Like the shop
or laboratory, the office requires a few preventive measures to ensure a safe and healthful
environment. Common causes of office accidents include the following: Slipping, tripping, and
falling hazards. Burning, cutting, and pinching hazards. Improper lifting and handling techniques
Unobservant and inattentive employee’s Improper office layout and arrangement. Dangerous
electrical wiring, and exposure to toxic substances. The following sections address several office
safeties practices. Other preventive measures not mentioned here may be necessary also.
REMEMBER: The office building is not a sterile working environment; common workplace
hazards can be extra dangerous when you ignore them.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

We should stimulate and promote strong safety standards in workplaces, especially to the people
who would benefit from protecting staff and the workplace. These risks can have both physical
and health consequences that are prone to the people working. Your employer must ensure that
your premises are safe and that your safety and wellbeing are not compromised. You are
responsible for the care and security of your own, and you should also be careful not to
jeopardize other individuals. Everyone is accountable for their wellbeing to be constantly
connected and not feeling anxious about the surroundings, evaluating each risk by examining the
degree of the possible consequences, the probability of an occurrence or incident, and the
number of employees involved. Nevertheless, companies are constantly obliged to manage and
safeguard workers against any significant identified dangers.

These problems significantly affect the different health problems played in the safety
movement. Work health shall promote and maintain to prevent employees from moving out
because of the health circumstances they operate to protect their employees in their job role from
the potential of adverse health factors putting and maintaining employees in the workplace. The
risks encountered by employees and ensuring that the company in order to meet the relevant
legislation. Workers in occupational safety have historically stressed avoiding traumatic injury
and deaths at their workplaces, but they concern themselves with all risks at work.

Occupational health and safety is the total avoidance of employees' injury, disease, and sudden
fatality. It is not only applied for just manufacturing, and safety is the primary component of an
individual to secure their life while in the workplace to prevent different hazards. Each
individual is responsible for their well-being to be constantly connected and not feeling anxious
about the surroundings, evaluating each risk by examining the degree of the possible
consequences, the probability of an occurrence or incident, and the number of employees
involved. Nevertheless, companies are constantly obliged to manage and safeguard workers
against any significant identified dangers.

4
IMPORTANCE OF SAFETY

Today's most significant realization in safety is simply the unique role each worker plays in
any task or activity in progress. All organizations must deal with the same safety issues. The key
variation is in the techniques employed to accomplish the job. The only method to ensure the
most significant degree of safe operation at work is via everyone’s duties, followed by an
enormous amount of confidence in a person's abilities. The main takeaway from this is that
everyone must take responsibility for their actions, focusing on completing the job with no
adverse consequences.

When several people think of "safety," they think of movements that only last for a while or
actions that show up occasionally. The main goal is to introduce something unique to the
collective consciousness and then another one. All of us should maintain our ability to be always
aware of our surroundings, especially individuals of all ages. It extends further than what they
learn, and it is essential to incorporate awareness of one's operation into reducing safety-related
risks. While safety encompasses a wide range of ways a catastrophe or accident may occur,
including the threat of bodily harm, economic, environmental, and social dangers, the word does
not only refer to physical protection. To ensure the safety of our everyday activities, we must
always stay vigilant and help keep safety in mind.  The key to creating efficient safety awareness
is to construct safeness into everything that you do within yourself. The greatest challenge in
getting people to recognize dangers, wear safety clothing, and listening to the security
department is getting them to take personal responsibility for doing so. When unsafe work
practices occur or risk assessments are disregarded, it is not only them who may be placed in
danger with those around them. The impacts may continue for long after the initial hazard has
been identified.

5
PRIORITIZE WORKPLACE SAFETY

Good Housekeeping Practices

Many office accidents are caused by poor housekeeping practices. By keeping the office
floor both neat and clean, you can eliminate most slipping, tripping, and falling hazards. Other
good housekeeping practices include the following: Ensure that office lighting is adequate and
available. Request the Physical Plant to replace burned out light bulbs, and have additional
lighting installed, as necessary. Ensure that electrical cords and phone cords do not cross
walkways or otherwise pose at ripping hazard. If you cannot move a cord, have a new outlet
installed or secure the cord to the floor with cord covering strips. Do not tape cords down or run
them underneath carpet. Report or repair tripping hazards such as defective tiles, boards, or
carpet immediately. Clean spills and pick up fallen debris immediately. Even a loose pencil
could cause a serious falling injury. Keep office equipment, facilities, and machines in good
condition. Store items in an approved storage space. Take care to not stack boxes too high or too
tight. Ensure that boxes are clearly labeled with their contents. Unauthorized hazardous objects
such as knives and firearms are not permitted in the workplace. In addition, hazardous chemicals
and materials should not be stored in the general office.

Preventing Cuts and Punctures

Cuts and punctures happen when people use everyday office supplies without exercising
care. Follow these guidelines to help reduce the chance for cuts and punctures: When sealing
envelopes, use a liquid dispenser, not your tongue. Be careful when using kitchen knives,
scissors, staplers, letter openers, and box openers. Any of these items could cause a painful
injury and should only be used for their intended purpose. Avoid picking up broken glass with
your bare hands. Wear gloves and use a broom and a dustpan.

Preventing Machine Accidents

6
Only use machines that you know how to operate. Never attempt to operate an unfamiliar
machine without reading the machine instructions or receiving directions from a qualified
employee. In addition, follow these guidelines to ensure machine safety: Secure machines that
tend to move during operation. Do not place machines near the edge of a table or desk. Ensure
that machines with moving parts are guarded to prevent accidents. Do not remove these guards.
Defective guards should be replaced. Unplug defective machines and have them repaired
immediately. Do not use any machine that smokes, sparks, shocks, or appears defective in any
way. Close hand-operated paper cutters after each use and activate the guard. Take care when
working with copy machines. If you have to open the machine for maintenance, repair, or
troubleshooting, remember that some parts may be hot. Always follow the manufacturer's
instructions for troubleshooting. Unplug paper shredders before conducting maintenance, repair,
or troubleshooting. Some items can be very dangerous when worn around machinery with
moving parts

Preventing Slips and Falls

As outlined in the General Safety chapter of this manual, the easiest way to avoid slips
and falls is to pay attention to your surroundings and to avoid running or rushing. To ensure
safety for others in the office, however, follow these guidelines: Arrange office furnishings in a
manner that provides unobstructed areas for movement. Keep stairs, steps, flooring, and
carpeting well maintained. Ensure that glass doors have some type of marking to keep people
from walking through them. Clearly mark any difference in floor level that could cause an
accident. Secure throw rugs and mats to prevent slipping hazards. Do not place wastebaskets or
other objects in walkways.

Preventing Stress
To reduce stress and prevent fatigue, it is important to take mini breaks (not many breaks)
throughout the day. If possible, change tasks at least once every two hours. Stretch your arms,
neck, and legs often if you do the same type of work for long periods of time. Rest your eyes
often by closing them or looking at something other than the work at hand. For a quick pick-me-
up, breathe deeply several times by inhaling through your nose and exhaling through your
mouth. In addition, always try to eat your lunch somewhere other than your desk.

7
Equipment Safety
As mentioned earlier, common office machines, such as the following, require special
safety consideration: copiers, microwaves, adding machines, papers shredders, paper cutters,
typewriters, and computers. Be sure you know how to operate these machines before using them.

IDENTIFY WORKPLACE HAZARDS

A workplace safety analysis checklist can make a world of difference for a company, as this
checklist enables a business to identify and assess risks and plan accordingly. This checklist
should focus on the following areas:
 Equipment: Examine equipment that workers use to perform day-to-day tasks, along with
potential dangers associated with this equipment.
 Environment: Review environmental conditions that may contribute to employee accidents or
injuries.
 Employee Behaviors: Assess day-to-day employee behaviors that may create unnecessary
risks.

Once you identify workplace hazards, educate employees about these dangers. Also, track
workplace injury statistics and the costs associated with them; with these statistics in hand, you
can take a data-driven approach to drive workplace safety improvements in the years to come.

RECOMMENDATIONS

11
Provide workers with the opportunity to share their workplace safety concerns with their
superiors you will be glad you did. If employees can report unsafe work conditions, they can
collaborate with their superiors to eliminate such problems and prevent them from recurring.
Workplace safety requires ongoing collaboration between managers and employees
across a company. Together, managers and employees can analyze on-the-job dangers and
determine the best ways to eliminate such problems.
They also can brainstorm ways to simultaneously reduce on-the-job risks and bolster
workplace productivity. Don’t leave workplace safety to chance. Instead, take advantage of the
tips, and your company can teach its employees everything they need to know about workplace
safety. And as a result, your company may be better equipped than ever before to avoid on-the-
job accidents, injuries, and fatalities.

CONCLUSSION

The primary importance that must be dealt with in the workplace is a balance of

consciousness and duty. Most events occur because a person fails to make an ethical decision or
accepts responsibility for their actions. Some who comprehend and use effective risk
management, are open to new things, shift from routine to better practices, and are interested in
learning are well-equipped to handle various work responsibilities. As a result, individuals are
likely to lose focus since they've been familiar with performing the same work, they claim to
know all the risks, and they've been doing the very same job for a while. They are unaware of the
potential threats that may appear. When they instruct people in a similar position, they miss
essential safety precautions. Safety measures should be adjusted to fit the needs of individuals.
Providing employees with safety equipment, establishing safeguards, utilizing control activities,
and giving the training is a critical occupational safety approach. Concerned employees who are
more informed about their workplace surroundings lead to a more comfortable, healthy, and
productive environment. The management and company owners are responsible for ensuring that
their workers are working safely in the workplace. To motivate people to be involved in the
working process. We should train professionals and workers frequently to remain mindful of
how they make things more comfortable.
