Activity 1 Sex- Linked Traits: Color Blindness and Hemophilia
Objectives:
1. Solve problems related to sex-linked traits.
Directions: Below are pictures of three sets of couple. Complete the Punnett squares
based on the information in the pictures and then use the Punnett squares to answer the
questions. Write your answer on a separate sheet of paper.
Note: Please refer to the key in Table 1 for the Colorblindness from your SLEM.

Specific Week: 4 (LAS 2)
Target Competency: Explain the different patterns of Non- Mendelian Inheritance (S9LT-Id-29), specifically sex-
linked, sex-limited, and sex-influenced traits. Also included in this module is the opportunity to learn about the
basics of DNA molecule. (This is a Government Property. Not For Sale.)

Activity 2 Sex-Linked, Sex-Limited, and Sex-Influenced Traits
Objective: differentiate sex-linked, sex-limited, and sex-influenced traits.
Directions: Identify the following if it is sex linked, sex limited or sex influenced.
Write your answer on the space provided.
1. A cock rooster comb. 2. A bald man 3. Cow producing milk.
4. Growth of
beard in man. 5. Colorblindness.

Activity 3 DNA Structure
Objectives:
⚫ Identify the components of a DNA molecule
⚫ Predict the complementary base pair of the opposite strand
Directions: Use the image below, copy the illustration and do the following to complete
the information.
⚫ Circle a nucleotide.
⚫ Label the sugar and phosphate.
⚫ Label the bases that are not already labeled

Guide Questions:
1. What are the common parts of a nucleotide?________________________ 2. What is the
one part of the nucleotide that differs among the other different nucleotides?
____________________________________________
3. List the different kinds of nitrogen bases___________________________ 4. Is there
always going to be an equal number of adenine and thymine nucleotides in molecule?
____________ Why?______________________________
5. Is there always going to be an equal number of guanine and cytosine nucleotides in
a molecule?
___________Why?_____________________________
6. The sides of the
ladder are made up of
alternating
___________and_______________ molecules. The steps (or rungs) of the ladder are made
up of ____________ held together by hydrogen bonds.
Note: Guide questions are taken from grade 9 Science Learner’s Module pp. 42-45
Activity 4 DNA Modeling
Directions: Make a model of DNA molecule using indigenous materials showing the
structure of DNA.
Objectives:
1. Identify the components of a DNA Molecule
2. Construct a model of a molecule of DNA
Materials: Cutouts of basic subunits of DNA, Crayons, Scissors, Tape or glue
Procedure:
1. Color and cut out all the units needed to make the nucleotides. Color code
phosphate (brown), deoxyribose sugar (black) and nitrogenous bases; Adenine
(yellow), Guanine (green), Thymine (blue) and Cytosine (red).
2. Using the small squares and stars as guide, line up the phosphate and sugars.
Attach the bases to the sugar using
circle
as guide following the sequence to
form a
row from top to bottom.
