Indirect vs Direct FM Generation Methods

There are two basic methods of generating FM signals: direct FM and indirect FM. 1. The indirect method uses narrow-band phase modulation to generate an intermediate signal, which is then converted to the desired wideband FM signal using multiplication. 2. The direct method modulates the carrier frequency directly in proportion to the input baseband signal. 3. Block diagrams show the components and signal flow of each method. The indirect method uses a phase modulator, bandpass filter, and multiplier while the direct method directly varies the carrier frequency.
