• Lighting Fixtures should be properly stored according to manufacturer's
recommendations and Project specifications.
• During installation, structural building members (e.g. I-beams, concrete columns, and
walls) shall not be cut or drilled without prior approval by the civil construction team.
9 - Works:
• The unloading of the lighting fixtures and accessories will be properly carried out at
worksite as per the quantity needed for installation. This is usually done manually,
unless the fixtures quantity is large, in such case, a forklift operated by a licensed
operator under project safety rules and regulations shall be used.
• The Site Engineer shall ensure that the latest revisions of all drawings, as well as all
relevant details drawings are available to the work team. He shall also inspect the
installed raceways and wiring that are installed before fixtures installation, to ensure
that raceways are properly installed and wires were tested, and that all is ready for
installation of lighting fixtures.
Suspension Mount Fixtures:
• The technician will note the mounting height of the fixtures from finished floor level
(FFL), to determine the length of mounting means needed for the fixtures. Mounting
means like chains or steel threaded suspension rods shall be cut to length using
appropriate means.
• The location of lighting fixtures shall be determined by measuring offsets from
building structural members (walls, columns) as indicated on lighting layout plans.
The position of each lighting fixture shall then be preliminarily marked on the ceiling
using appropriate means, like chalk. This position shall be as close as possible to the
lighting outlet (junction box) intended for feeding the fixture.
• The exact location of fixing the suspension means (chains or rods) shall be carefully
planned and marked. Chains or rods of predetermined length shall be fixed either
directly to the ceiling using anchors bolts, or to horizontal C-channel struts fixed to
the ceiling. In all cases, the mounting method shall be as detailed in the approved
shop drawing
• The main body of the fixture shall then be fastened or hooked to the suspension
means, as appropriate. The technician shall ensure that fixtures are firmly secured
and horizontally levelled, and that fixtures are aligned as indicated on approved
layout drawings, as practical as structural members allow.

• The lighting fixture wiring shall then be connected to its branch circuit outlet. Flexible
conduits may be used between the outlet and the suspended fixture. Alternatively,
pendant cables may be used, if specified by project drawings and/or specifications,
with appropriate strain relief bushings (or glands) used at both ends. If applicable,
earthing wire shall be bonded to the terminal inside fixture body.
• The fixture remaining body parts (reflector, diffuser) shall be completely assembled to
the main body of the fixture. The Site Engineer shall supervise the installation to
ensure good workmanship throughout the installation.
• All connectors, bushings, and conduit accessories, as applicable, shall conform to the
project specifications, and shall have been approved by the Engineer prior to works
Surface Mount Fixtures:
• The location of lighting fixtures shall be determined by measuring offsets from
building structural members (walls, columns) as indicated on lighting layout plans. The
position of each lighting fixture shall then be preliminarily marked on the ceiling using
appropriate means, like chalk. This position shall be directly beneath the lighting outlet
(junction box) intended for feeding the fixture.
• The exact location of fixing the mounting means (bracket or C-channel) shall be
carefully marked. Fixtures shall be mount either directly to the ceiling using anchors
bolts or to horizontal C-channel struts fixed to the ceiling. In all cases, the mounting
method shall be as detailed in the approved shop drawings.
• The main body of the fixture shall then be fastened in place. The technician shall
ensure that fixtures are firmly secured and levelled, and that fixtures are aligned as
indicated on approved layout drawings, as practical as structural members allow.
• The lighting fixture wiring shall then be connected to its branch circuit outlet. Wiring
shall cross directly between outlet and fixture body, with appropriate bushings (or
glands) used so as not to damage or abrade wires insulation. If applicable, earthing
wire shall be bonded to the terminal inside fixture body.
• The fixture remaining body parts (reflector, diffuser) shall be completely assembled
to the main body of the fixture. The Site Engineer shall supervise the installation to
ensure good workmanship throughout the installation.
• All connectors, bushings, and -conduit accessories, as applicable, shall conform to the
- project specifications, and shall have been approved by the Engineer prior to works.

Recessed Fixtures (in false ceiling):
• The location of lighting fixtures shall be determined as indicated on lighting layout
plans, and the ceiling tile (panel) at the position of each lighting fixture shall then be
removed. This position shall be as close as possible to the lighting outlet (junction box)
intended for feeding the fixture.
•The upper body part of the fixture shall be mounted in place of the removed false
ceiling tile. The mounting method shall be as detailed in the approved shop drawings.
The technician shall ensure that fixtures are firmly secured and horizontally levelled ,
and that fixtures are aligned as indicated on approved layout drawings
• The lighting fixture wiring shall then be connected to its branch circuit outlet. Flexible
conduits may be used in the plenum above the false ceiling, between the outlet and
the recessed fixture body. Alternatively, pendant cables may be used, if specified by
project drawings and/or specifications, with appropriate strain relief bushings (or
glands) used at both ends. If applicable, earthing wire shall be bonded to the terminal
inside fixture body.
• The fixture remaining body parts (reflector, diffuser) shall be completely assembled
to the main body of the fixture. The Site Engineer shall supervise the installation to
ensure good workmanship throughout the installation.
• Some recessed fixture types are designed to be protruding from an opening in the
false ceiling tile without completely replacing it, in that case, the tile shall be removed,
cut to required shape, and mounted back with the fixture installed. The mounting
method shall be as detailed in the approved shop drawings.
•All connectors, bushings, and conduit accessories, as applicable, shall conform to the
project specifications, and shall have been approved by the Engineer prior to works.
9 - post-Works:
• After installation, tests on the lighting system shall be performed as per Project
Inspection Plan, including functional test to ensure the proper functioning of all
switches, and lux test to assess the illumination level.
