BATANG INA: THE LIVED EXPERIENCES OF THE ADOLESCENT MOTHERS ENROLLED IN DIFFERENT SCHOOLS IN
NAGA CITY
SCOPE AND DELIMITATIONS
The study covered ten student mothers in Naga City, Camarines Sur, who are enrolled in school years 2019-2020 up to the recent academic year. The study is
delimited to students who have been pregnant in their teens (12 to 19) years old and living in Naga City, Camarines Sur. The subjects were drawn to the students
who have been pregnant and or have been a student on their teenager days. The study is only limited to the students who have a child under six years of age.
The study was mainly focused on the student mothers' experiences, challenges, coping strategies, and realizations.
Furthermore, the study was only done in Naga City and will not cover any other place. Out-of-School Youth in Naga City was not focused and included in this
study which can be explored by future researchers for more findings regarding their experiences.
METHODOLOGY
The fundamental goal of this qualitative phenomenological study is to investigate and comprehend the lived experiences of student mothers throughout their
pregnancy and rearing a child. As defined by Salvador (2016), the study of phenomena is known as phenomenology. The findings of this study may be useful to
others, which is the fundamental purpose of research. Furthermore, phenomenological research is based on studying and comprehending human beings' lived
experiences. This may be accomplished by determining the significance of the experiences and the essences of human beings' lived experiences (Creswell,
2012).
The study's participants were ten Naga City-based adolescent moms aged 12 to 19 years old. Purposive sampling was used to choose participants. Informed
permission obtained by both participants and at least one of the biological/legal foster parents; age range of 12-19 years old; readiness to share their lived
experiences; and commitment to attend follow-up conversations are the inclusion criteria for this study. As a result, semi-structured in-depth interviews were
enabled as the primary study tool for data collection. However, participants were given the option to withdraw at any point to maintain the ideal of autonomy
and secrecy. To augment the data gathering procedure, observations, field notes (personal, transcribed, and analytical), audio-visual recordings, and qualitative
papers were employed. Furthermore, interviews were verbatim transcribed in preparation for data analysis.
