Elemental Solitaire

(1 player)

Goal: Remove every single tile from the game by pairing up each tile with its opposite
element.

Fire is opposite to water, and earth is opposite to air.

Set up: Shuffle the tiles, then set up ten tiles face up in 4 rows in a 3 - 2 - 3 - 2 order.
Above those tiles, set up the rest of the tiles face down in a 2 - 1 - 2 - 1 order. There
should be no more left over tiles.

Playing a turn: During a turn, a player can do one of the following:

1. Pair up 2 of the opposite elements and place them to the side.
2. Draw a tile from above (Faced-Down tiles) if pairing is no longer possible.
a. If that tile can pair up with its opposite element, than pair it up and
place it to the side
b. If that tile cannot pair up with its opposite element, then place it in one
of rows in which there are still tiles. (if there are no more tiles in a row
a tile cannot be placed there).

● Tiles cannot be placed on an empty row.
● If pairing a tile with its opposite element is possible, it must be paired up.
● If more than 4 tiles are placed in a row, the game is over and you have lost.
● If face up tiles have been paired up, but there are still tiles faced down, you
have lost.
● If there are no more faced down tiles, and it is still not possible to pair up any
face up tiles with its opposite element, you have lost.
● If all tiles have been paired up and placed to the side and there are no more
tiles faced up or down, you have won the game.
Elemental Cycle
(2 players to 4 players)

Goal: To get rid of all your tiles first and to NOT reach 5 points.

Setup: For 2 players, give 5 tiles to each person and set up the remaining 6 tiles in a
2x3 rectangle. Make sure to not look at any tiles except for your own.
(For 3 players, each person gets 4 tiles, with 4 tiles left over. Set up left over tiles in
a 2x2 rectangle)
(For 4 players, each person gets 3 tiles, with 4 tiles left over. Set up left over tiles in
a 2x2 rectangle)

Playing a turn: Decide who goes first through a coin toss. The player that goes first
places down any tile. The next player must do the following:

1. Place down an element horizontally next to the first tile. The element must
match what is on the corner of the first tile.

a. The next player now has two options for what tiles to place down next.
Placing down a tile that corresponds with the corner is called
“continuing the cycle.”

b. The player can do either of the following his next turn:

or
c. A player does not have to continue the cycle on a specific side. He can
place the tile on either side just as long as it continues the cycle with
the right tiles
2. If a tile cannot continue the cycle, then draw a tile from the left over tiles.
a. If that tile can continue the cycle, then he can place down that tile.
b. If that tile cannot continue the cycle, then he saves that tile in his hand.

Notice how this cycle is being played out:

If the table that is being played on is too short, the direction of the tiles can change,
just as long as it continues the cycle correctly:

When a person has run out of tiles, the round is over

After a round, the amount of tiles that a person has left, corresponds with his points.
Therefore if a player has 2 tiles left over from that round, that player has 2 points.

After counting the points of that round, reshuffle the tiles and start a new one.

If a player reaches 5 points, he is out of the game. Continue the game until there is
only one player left. That player is the winner.
