Academic Mentoring

Objective: To ensure academic and professional excellence of students by faculty


mentor.

Strategy: Every Post graduate student would be assigned under the mentorship of a
faculty member who would be the mentor for the student in their first year and
research guide for their in their second year. The entire mentoring program would be
supervised by a faculty team which includes the mentoring program coordinators, class
teachers and faculty mentors. The roles and responsibilities of the team members are as
follows.

Class teachers

1. Identify the special needs (Support for Class Room Learning, Internship
Opportunities, Research Guidance or Personal Development) of students.
2. Be a link between students and faculty mentors by providing information about
the needs and opportunities of mentoring program.
3. Work with faculty mentors, if students are in need of personal development.

Mentoring faculties

4. Provide adequate guidance and support for mentees on class room learning,
research interests, and internship opportunities.
5. Understand the academic and professional aspirations of students and nurture
them among students
6. Meet your mentee once in a week
7. Maintain and update documents about meetings with mentee on a regular basis
and send attendance slip to IPM.
8. Ethical guidelines related to Individual rights, Privacy, Confidentiality have to be
followed by class teachers, mentors and mentees.

Mentees
9. Meet mentor once in a week on the appointed time.
10. Set goal for academic and professional development with the help of mentor.
11. Ensure that the tasks sets for meeting the goals are met on time.
12. Any additional support approach class teachers/ coordinators with the consent
of mentor.
