Role of the preconscious mind


The contents of the preconscious mind include all of the things that we are actively aware of. The closely
related preconscious mind contains all of the things that we could potentially pull into conscious
awareness.

The subconscious is the storage point for any memories needed for quick recall, it also holds current
information that we use every day.

Another function of the subconscious mind is to retrieve data.

Self-Explanation
The preconscious mind, can be considered as the storehouse of all remembered experiences,
impressions that are left on the mind and tendencies that are reinforced by these impressions.

The preconscious mind holds every memory that we have and it is also responsible for retrieving it.

Difference to other level of awareness


Unconscious vs. Preconscious vs. Conscious
The conscious mind is having an awareness to something. The unconscious is a process that happens
automatically while the preconscious is part of our consciousness process.
Your preconscious mind is subjective. It does not think or reason independently. It merely obeys the
commands it receives from your conscious mind.

Your conscious mind can be thought of as the gardener, planting seeds. Your preconscious mind can be
thought of as the garden, or fertile soil, in which the seeds germinate and grow.

Your conscious mind commands and your preconscious mind obeys.

Your preconscious mind is an unquestioning servant. It works day and night to make your behavior fits a
pattern consistent with your emotionalized thoughts, hopes, and desires.

Examples
1. Asking someone what their middle name was, or when it last rained.

2. Asking someone about their father’s birthday.

3. Preconscious memory or Automatic skill.
