Slow Progress: Achieving Goals

The document is a script for an advocacy video created by a group of high school students. Each member introduces themselves and states a personal goal, such as improving sleep schedule or learning to cook healthily. They acknowledge that the pandemic has increased stress and decreased productivity for many. However, they emphasize that slow progress is still progress, and small, consistent goals can yield significant results over time. Monitoring goals and sharing wins with others can help maximize progress. The video encourages viewers to recognize their own achievements and not compare themselves to others who may progress at different paces.

Grade 12 - Marcov | Group 6 – Advocacy Video Script

B1. John Robert Arao – “Arao”
G1_ Yciar Xanthe Arnedo – “Xanthe”

_____________________________________________________________________________________

[Intro]

Nigel: Oh, hey there!

Bea: What’s up?

Xanthe: Have you been productive recently?

Arao: Been setting any goals?

[Goal part]

Eunice: *waking up* As for me, I have! I’m Eunice, and my goal is to fix my sleeping
schedule and work out

Bea: I’m Bea, my goal is to get through another year of online classes

Arao: I’m J.R., and my goal is to learn how to cook and eat healthily

Xanthe: I’m Xanthe, and my goal is to study Japanese up to the n4 level

Nigel: Hey, I’m Nigel! My goal is to arrange a choral piece to be sung by the choir
I'm in

Arao: Come with us and let us bring you along as we achieve our goals!

[Pause, glitch effect]

Xanthe : We may not notice it, but goal setting has been an intrinsic part of our
lives since before the pandemic started. However, did you know that the turbulent
times we’re facing now have serious effects on our headspace? Almost 81% of
Generation Z teenagers have been experiencing more stress due to technological
barriers, as well as physical and psychological strain brought by the new distance
learning modalities.

Arao: Another deteriorating effect of social isolation brought to us by the pandemic

is the decrease in productivity. Many experienced difficulties working and
concentrating as we did in the pre-pandemic. And it’s totally okay. We really have
to take it slowly.

Bea: Especially in women, the pandemic has made productivity decline. And since
we are all working at home, we can’t avoid our family responsibilities, or our
household chores. And as the pandemic continues and uncertainties widen, our
productivity problem may get worse.

(Insert videos of us doing household chores)

Nigel: Let’s always remember that “Every success is achieved through baby steps”
and “Small goals allow us to focus better”. These tiny goals can promote action.
Study shows that people tend to work harder when they are closer to their goals.

Eunice: We should always keep in mind that we have to be consistent because

small choices with consistency in a long time would yield significant results. Every
small actions we do adds up to our progress.

“Small choices + consistency + time = significant results”

Nigel: If you are still having trouble with acknowledging your small progress, you
may start writing a journal to highlight your achievements and small wins. You can
see, at the end of the year, the accumulations of your tiny steps and how it
progresses to big steps.

Eunice: You can also try creating a memory jar where you can put all kinds of
accomplishments that you have done. It can serve you as an internal validation of
your journey. You can also share it with your friends and loved ones, the wins that
you have won. It would ignite joy in you and others.

Xanthe: A study has also shown that monitoring goal processes help. It can be
shared with others to maximize the effect on the goal attainment of a person.

Arao: Goals vary by person, and therefore we have different ways to go about
achieving them. We also have varying levels of commitment to our goals, so know
that it is normal for people not to achieve personal goals at the same time.

(Insert videos of us working towards our goals)

Arao: You might feel as if everyone around you is moving too fast

Eunice: And that you’re being left behind by your peers

Xanthe: Calm down, don’t fret, and always Remember

Nigel: Each person progresses in different ways and times,

Bea: And that slow progress, is still progress.
