MTA:VC O.1 Manual Revision 2
1. Introduction
MTA has come a long way since its beginning. Starting as the world’s first Grand Theft Auto
multiplayer mod we brought a new level of gameplay to the world of GTA3. Now we have finally
done it for Vice City! Introducing new features to the world of MTA like choppers and bikes and
with a whole new technical foundation.
The old problems from GTA:MTA have been worked away and gameplay is now possible with
almost no lag. Ingame chat has been made available (be it in a crude way).
Now we finally have a stable netcode it is time to focus on extra features, gameplay and new
game-modes like 'Speed' or 'Capture The Car!'

2. Changes
MTA:VC brings a complete new client, we switched from VB to C++, changed the netcode and
went from GTA3 to VC.
It took a long while to convert some things from VB to C++, but we decided to remove the old
and buggy netcode and replace it with a new (buggy) one. This netcode provides almost lagfree
internet game and makes it possible to play with more players on slower connections.
The client code has been changed a lot, the status window has been removed and has been
replaced with a player list. In the future we will have a single client for both GTA3 & VC. Also the
new client uses a separate .scm file so we don’t need to overwrite anything from the original
game. If our client is not started VC will start in SP. If our client did start you will be able to play
multiplayer.
The other benefit from the new client is the fact you now need to start the client first, and
connect to server, and only then you start Vice City. This brings a huge improvement for the
n00bs amongst our users. No alt tabbing :p
Inside the game, players all appear in different skins, you can’t choose them for the moment,
but at least you don’t see 20 Tommy’s :p
Many weapons are available in Vice City but not all.
We have not figured everything out yet and therefore there is no player animation during
walking/running. The vehicles on the other hand are fully functional and if you blow one up, it
blows up for everyone.
We have built in cheat prevention. Standard VC cheats will not work anymore. We have done
this not only to improve gameplay, but to prevent the utilisation of bugs and problems we still
have which damage fair play (e.g. if you spawn a car type that is not supported you are invisible
for everyone)
Weapons on vehicles don’t work (so you can’t shoot with the Hunter or kill someone with an Uzi
drive-by from your car or bike), but you can destroy vehicles that drive by you when you are
walking.

3. Installation
The installation of this new version is similar to that of 0.3b. The only difference is that the client
needs to be installed in the VC folder and not in the GTA3 folder.
You know, your everyday installer, just click next all the time :p .

4. Client
The most important thing of course is our client which will allow you to play online. From now on
you need to start the client before you start GTA!
As you can see the looks of the client have changed a bit, but we can still see all the
components: The chat in the centre, the player list on the left and your details on the right.
Before you connect to a server you need to fill in your nickname and the server address, if you
do not know an address you can find one with ASE ([Link] .
Once the details have been entered you can click the connect button. In the chat window you
will see if you are connected, once connected you get a player listing on the left and you can
use the chat window to talk with the others. All chat messages also appear in the game.
Once you are connected you may start GTA:VC by selecting it in the start menu, and then start
a new game.
To chat ingame you press the 'T' key, type your message and press enter. Your message will
now be displayed in the chat window in the client and in the upper left corner in the game.

5. The server (Windows™ and Linux)
The server works almost the same way as our previous one, we have an executable file and a
config file. To run the server just make sure you have a decent config file in the same directory
and run the executable.
The config file has changed a lot, it is now possible to add comments and you can put the
parameters in any order you want..
The parameters:
ServerName “name” : You replace name with the name you want to give your server, it
will show in ASE with this name
ServerPort #### : replace the #### with the port number you want to use
MaxPlayers ## : again, replace the ## with a number to limit the max. number of players,
the minimum is 2, the maximum is 32
Game 2 : This means that it is for GTA:VC, 1 is GTA3 but is not implemented yet
LogFile “*.log” : replace*.log with the filename you want to give to your log.
AdminServer 0 : This value has to be set to 1 if you want to use the adminpanel
AdminPort #### : again a port number, this time for the adminpanel
AdminPassword “pass” : the password to protect your server
ServerPasswordEnabled 0 : set this value to 1 if you want your server to be protected
with a password
ServerPassword “pass” :here you can specify the password for the server
ASE 1 : set this to 0 if you do not want your server to be shown in ASE

6. Server config utility
Just like in the previous version we have included an easy to use config utility for the server.
Just fill in the fields to set it up, click the save and launch button and the server is running.
On top of the tool we find the basic server
setting, The server name as is displayed in
ASE, the number of players and the port it is
using for communication (standard 2003)
Below it we can choose which GTA the server is
for, for the moment VC is the only option. On the
right of it we can choose whether we want our
server to show up in ASE, if the button is green
ASE is enabled, if it is red ASE is disabled. Click
it once to change the value
Below this we can set a password for our server
so you can play in private with your friends.
Leave this blank to disable the password
Below the GTA version we can chose the
gametype, for the moment we only have DM
Now we come to the admin panel. The admin
panel itself is explained in the next chapter, if
you want to use it, enable it, fill in the port you
want to use and choose a password. If you
enable shutdown you can stop the server from inside the admin panel.
Now all you have to do is click on the button “Save settings & launch server” to start your server.

7. Remote Server admin
The remote server admin gives you basic control over your server in Microsoft Windows
Just enter the relevant Password,
IP and Port and press 'Connect'.
Username does not need to be
filled in. You can kick and ban
players, select their name and
press the correct button, you may
also chat to the players inside the
game.
Shut down the server by pressing
the shutdown button, only works if
the shutdown command enabled
is.
