RJ Final Project

This document provides options for activities related to Romeo and Juliet. Students must pick one activity from each of two categories: 1. Memorize and recite 10 lines from Romeo and Juliet or create a video acting out a scene. Extra credit is given for reciting Queen Mab's entire speech. 2. Create a gravestone epitaph for characters, design a movie poster casting modern actors in Romeo and Juliet roles, make a Facebook page for a character, translate a scene into modern language while matching the original lines, or propose their own "wild card" idea linking to the play. Rubrics will be provided to evaluate the activities.

Pick ONE activity from EACH of the following categories:

a
 a
Activities to choose from:
1. Memorize at least 1O lines of one character of Romeo and Juliet. This can be 10 lines from any monologue in the play.
Possibilities to choose from: either Romeo or Juliet from the Balcony scene, Prince Escalus from A1S1, Mercutio͛s Queen
Mab speech, any of Friar Lawrence͛s speeches. To be recited from memory (in front of the class for EC; in front of just
me by special arrangement). **Recite does not require acting.

2. Video yourself acting out a section of the play. You may do a monologue (must be a full monologue) or find a
partner/group. Scripts may not be seen in the video. Use props and costumes. The video will be shown in class.

**Extra Credit for anyone who does the entire Queen Mab speech.

Activities to choose from:
1. Gravestone -- ͞Death lies on her like an untimely frost/Upon the sweetest flower of all the field.͟ This sad remark by
Lord Capulet about Juliet could serve as her epitaph (inscription on a grave). Write a similar epitaph (
!"# ) for three of the following characters: Romeo, Juliet, Mercutio, Tybalt, and Paris. Indicate at least
one characterizing trait in each epitaph. These should be mounted on tombstones (materials choice is up to you),
making certain that the epitaphs can be clearly read.

2. Movie Poster -- Design a movie poster for your version of c

. Your poster must be poster sized and
include some type of #$" %$ & $ ' (($# . )& & " *
+&* '$ ,"$ " with modern actors. Your cast selection must appear somewhere on your poster.
How they appear can be modeled after common formats of movie posters. Your poster must also contain at least
("& - !$ ""!&! !&& .. $!&! &!/$ %#   $. For example,
͞Runnest thou must to behold this saucy tale!͟ ʹ Roger Elizabert. ****You may not cast the chic and the dude from
›

as R and J. Your selection must demonstrate that you understand what types of characters R and J are and must
not merely be who you think is the prettiest or hottest actors/actresses in Hollywood. Along these lines, you may cast an
older or deceased actor/actress from when they were younger as long as you indicate as much.

3. Facebook Page ʹ Create a Facebook page for a main character in RJ. It must be formatted like a real Facebook page
and include posts from other characters on the page. The more detailed you get, the better. For example, what kind of
ads would pop up in the margins of Juliet͛s page?

4. Interpret a scene ʹ Write the play of Romeo and Juliet in 2011 vernacular (common speech). Each line of your
interpretation must match a line of the original version of the play. You can pick your own idea of where to set your
version, or you may expand on the brainstorming that you did with your group on a high school version. Your script must
be accompanied by a thorough description of the ͞world of your play.͟

5. Wild Card -- You know your talents and interests. If you can think of something to link to the play, please feel free to
suggest it. Write a detailed description of what you͛d like to do and how it will deepen your understanding of the play. I
will consider it, and, if I think it is appropriate, approve it. $ ." #* * '&.#0 If I reject your
proposal, you will need to select from those offered above.
