Q.1.
(i) A line makes angles 600 and 450 with positive x-axis and positive y-axis,
respectively. What angle does it make with the positive z-axis?
(ii) Prove the identity relation l2 + m2 + n2 = 1 between direction cosines
of a straight line. Does this relation hold between direction ratios?
Justify your answer.
Q.2. Prove that the equation
2x2 + 6y 2 − 12z 2 + yz + 2zx + 7xy = 0
represents a pair of planes passing through the origin and find the angle be-
tween them.

Q.3. Show that the straight lines whose direction cosines are given by the
equation ul + vm + wn = 0 and al2 + bm2 + cn2 = 0 are
• perpendicular if
u2 (b + c) + v 2 (c + a) + w2 (a + b) = 0, and
• parallel if

cylinder.
Q.7. Find the equation of the circular cylinder whose guiding curve is the
circle
