Recognize the patient's need for silence, and sit quietly at the bedside.
Frequently, silence is related to the overwhelming feelings experienced at the end of life. Silence
can also allow time to gather thoughts. Listening to the silence sends a message of acceptance
and comfort.

A 10-pound weight loss may be an indication of elder neglect or depression and requires further
assessment by the nurse.

Approximately two thirds of older adults use prescription and nonprescription drugs with one
third of all prescriptions being written for older adults

The nurse should encourage the older adult to question the physician and/or pharmacist about all
prescribed drugs and over-the-counter drugs. The older adult should be taught the names of all
drugs being taken, when and how to take them, and the desirable and undesirable effects of the
drugs.

It is very important to consider the autonomy of the older client to make a decision for herself
especially in this type of situation, it should be in accordance with her hearth.

In taking medications it is very important to read the inserts and information about the medicines
for safetiness and ask the pharmacist if there is something you don’t understand so that she can
explain and clarify and able to lead you the right way.

Having a preconceived assumptions regarding the lifestyles and attitudes of a group is not the
greatest barrier in providing quality health care to the older adult client, it is something that is
good for the adults health.

It is not appropriate to overextend the extremities of the older client even if necessary when
undressing and dressing because they have a weaker extremities already as they aged, that can
only cause an undesirable outcome.

In transferring the client from bed to wheelchair it is not appropriate that the clients knee caps
are touching the fron of the wheelchair. It is a big misconduct that can lead to accident.

The sunglasses will impair the vision; so the home health aide should not allow the client to wear
the sunglasses for his/her own sake. This behavior should not be tolerated so the nurse must
educate the client about this and the consequences it might have and ask the patient to stop doing
this as it caused a negative effect of the eyes.
