Augustinian Recollect Integral Formation Guide

The document outlines an integral formation framework for lay collaborators of the Augustinian Recollect order. It addresses four dimensions: deepening personal spirituality, integrating into a community with a shared identity, continual professional training in the Augustinian Recollect brand of education, and infusing an Augustinian Recollect identity to contribute to nation building. The framework includes a table that details formation objectives and stages for faculty and academic non-teaching staff in each of the four dimensions, from early career stages to senior levels.

I.

THE CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK OF THE AUGUSTINIAN RECOLLECT INTEGRAL FORMATION

FOR LAY COLLABORATORS.

Drawn from the wellspring of inspiration of our father, Saint Augustine, the mission statement of the Order of Augustinian
Recollect which states that – education, that is based on Gospel values is a mission to serve God through humanity, is the
compelling drive for the REAP member schools to echo in its mission the yearnings of our father, Saint Augustine.

As Augustinian Recollect schools, it is paramount in our mission to educate, to have in all its programs and projects a dynamic
integration that balances the appreciation of having a well-grounded personal spirituality, that leads to the communal identity
through a distinctly Augustinian Recollect Education.

The integral formation for Lay Collaborators which seeks to establish a Filipino, Catholic, Augustinian Recollect Character,
must, at its end, be at the service of the social, political, cultural, moral, intellectual, psychological, and spiritual dimensions
that is relevant in the context of here and now.

Given this context, the framework of formation addresses four (4) major dimensions:

1. The dimension that focuses on the deepening of personal spirituality.

2. The dimension that focuses on the person integrating itself in a context of a community with the same identity.
3. The dimension that focuses on the person as a professional willing to be continually trained in the Augustinian Recollect
Brand of Education.
4. The dimension that focuses on the Augustinian Recollect identity infusing itself in the milieu that contributes to nation
building.

Advanced Career Stage
th
11 years in service SAC
onwards STVC A new cycle will begin as a mentor to the new Augustinian Recollect Lay Collaborators
Note: Journey with a
companion (mentorship) SEMC
II. DESCRIPTION OF THE THREE (3) STAGES OF FORMATION UNDER THE FRAMEWORK:
AUGUSTINIAN RECOLLECT INTEGRATED FORMATION PROGRAM FRAMEWORK FOR LAY
COLLABORATORS

1. Early Career Stage: Zero to Five Years in Service

The early career stage is an exploratory and formative stage for the “young” lay collaborator, this stage is a period that serves
to expose the young member of the community to the basics of the institution. It is essential that there is not just an
understanding of the brand, but the acceptance of what it stands for in the general scheme of personal spirituality, mission,
education, and its application in the immediate and external community.

In the first five years of residency in the community, it is expected that the lay collaborator:

1. has already acquired a substantial working knowledge,

2. has already internalized the brand, and
3. is already living out the vision, mission, goals, and objectives of the institution in the community.

1.1. Initiation Years: Zero to Second Year in Service

This is the year of initiating the lay collaborator into the basics of the community. It is here where the journey as an
Augustinian recollect lay collaborator begins by exploring life in the community of SSC-R de Cavite. It is expected that these
years the lay collaborator shall be in a state of inquiry and must show desire for knowing learning.

Essential in these years is a full grasp of the Order’s mission in education, general institutional policies and manuals of
operations, policies, and guidelines.

1.2. Internalization Years: Third and Fourth Years in Service

On the third and the fourth years in service are stages whereby lay collaborators must be able to absorb the Augustinian
Recollect Brand of Education. In these years the lay collaborators are expected to display not just understanding of the mission
in education but committing to the Vision, Mission, Goals, and Objectives of the institution.

At a certain degree, the lay collaborators are expected to display a spirit of voluntarism, and are active contributors to school
programs and activities.

1.3. Living Out Years: Fifth Year in Service

On the fifth year of service, lay collaborators must already be able to apply the Augustinian Pedagogy, not just as a teacher, but
also as a skilled professional. Beyond embracing the perceived Augustinian recollect identity and values, must now be evident
in the Personnel Evaluation Management Module (PEMM) result of the lay collaborator.

The Fifth year is the last stage in the first phase of Augustinian Recollect Sebastinian Formative Years. It is in this period of
employment that an exemplary lay collaborator has taken roots on the Augustinian Recollect brand of education and
spirituality with an intent to be an extension of the Order of Augustinian Recollect mission to education the youth of Cavite
province.

2. Mid-Career Stage: Sixth to Tenth Year in Service

The mid-career is a stretch in the years of service with specific variables which is characterized by having a high level of
activity as the lay collaborator enters into the best career years as member of the community. In this particular stage, the lay
collaborators are expected to have recognizable professional competence. From knowing the brand, the lay collaborator now
becomes the brand.

In this phase of the formation, it is expected that the lay collaborator:

1. has already possessed a degree of advancement in professional competencies and are contributors in the field of research
that benefits the institution,
2. has already embraced more than just the task but is ready for the call for leadership in the institution, and
3. is ready to become the mentor bearing the zest of an accomplished Augustinian Recollect-Sebastinian educator by
becoming the brand.

2.1. Advancement in Professional Competencies: Sixth to Seventh Year of Service

The sixth and the seventh year in the lay collaborator’s employment are the years when specific competencies and the
Augustinian pedagogy is established. It is in this period that lay collaborators are expected to have gained post graduate studies
befitting their academic orientation, or may have gained training in a highly specialized field of endeavor. Research and
published work is expected to benefit not just the intuitions but its extensions.

The lay collaborators at this stage must be open to the possibilities in the call for leadership in the community.

2.2. A Call for Leadership: Eighth to Ninth Year of Service

The lay collaborator is expected to render not just quality service but quality leadership, bearing the character traits of an
Augustinian Recollect-Sebastinian leaders who are equipped with unquestionable ethical and moral standards both in the
personal and moral life.

The lay collaborator is expected to not only be a leader in the community, but also a dynamic game-changer in community
extensions.

2.3. The Person, the Mentor, the Brand: Tenth Year in Service

The lay collaborator is expected to have graduated from the stages of formation and has become a new person to mentor
another by being the brand.
3. Advanced Career Stage: Eleventh Year Onwards of Mentoring

The advanced year up to retirement in service refers to a lay collaborators’ journeying to Emmaus whereby the lay collaborator
becomes the listener and the doer by mentoring another member of the community, passing over the flame that fires the
Augustinian Recollect-Sebastinian collaborators in achieving excellence in education, excellence in character, and a moral and
spiritual life that is fit to be emulated by the younger generations of the community. This is the stage where the faculty member
is called upon to use one’s wisdom and accumulated experiences for mentorship to the academic and organizational leaders of
the School.

It is in this stage where the spiral of formation comes into full circle whereby an Augustinian Recollect-Sebastinian leader
forms another Augustinian Recollect-Sebastinian leader.

And the spiral of formation begins.

III. DESCRIPTION OF THE FOUR (4) PROGRAM DIMENSIONS:

Personal Dimension: Personal Spirituality Program

Personal Spirituality focuses primarily on the formation of the individual person, as an embodied spirit, created in the image
and likeness of God, and his relationship with God. Augustinian Recollect Formation gives primacy to one’s personal spiritual
experience through which he would attain the grace of inner freedom to authentically respond to the love of God.

This personal spiritual experience is so important that the formation programs in SSC-R de Cavite ensure that such
opportunities, at appropriate times, are available to the individual persons or members of the community.

In this dimension, opportunities for knowing oneself and appreciating his context, including his vocation—whether in
marriage, religious or priestly life, or a single life, or other forms of consecrated life, are given a special attention with the
belief that the awareness and understanding of one’s person is essential to the growth in one’s faith life and spirituality.

Community Dimension: Community Spirituality Program

Community Spirituality focuses on the formation of the person, as a social being, and his relationship with others as a lay
collaborator of the SSC-R de Cavite community whose inspiration and educational principles are drawn from our Father St.
Augustine, spiritual founder of the Order of Augustinian Recollects.

Human is not created as a solitary being. Every human being needs others to grow to full maturity as a person only in relating
with and through others. Every human is called to love and live his life with others, and respond to the Kingdom as a Christian
in a community as a Church. As the Second Plenary Council of the Philippines (PCP II) provides it;

“We are called as individuals, and each one must give a personal response. But Christ calls us to
form a Christian community. He wants the Church to be ‘a communion of life, love and truth, a community of
faith, hope and charity’ (PCP II, 89, p.36).
As a member of the SSC-R de Cavite community, it is imperative that the member not only manifest competence in academic
discipline but must also exhibit deep familiarity with the charism and core values of Augustinian Recollect education and share
the same passion in the vision, mission, goals, and objectives of the School. These would enable him to continue the
‘Augustinian Recollect tradition’ of education and on the part of the School a way to achieve its ultimate goal which is
educating the mind and the heart.

Profession Dimension: Professional Spirituality

This is focused primarily on the formation of the individual person as a teacher or as a staff member or in whatever occupation
or status the person may presently be, insofar as the person is engaged with the School.
This formation enables them to develop the qualities of mind and heart. Ultimately, this area of formation enables the
individual members of the academic community to work with others for the good of all in the “praise, reverence and service”
of the Kingdom of God.

Social Dimension: Social Spirituality

The social dimension in the framework is described as Social Spirituality. This focuses on the formation of the person and his
relationship with the society and the world. As a human person, he not only relates with other people or groups but also with
the structures and systems of society in the world.

He affects structures and structures affect him, his life today and in the future. He is called to take active part in the shaping
and building of his world in such a manner that the Kingdom of God reigns. The formation programs in SSC-R de Cavite
provide such opportunities for the individual person to share his gifts not just to his immediate family but to the bigger world
as well, especially working for justice and being in solidarity with the poor.
