Introduction

The Bhashaparicheda
together with the authors gloss called
the Siddantamuktavali was written by
viswanatha Nyayapanchanana. The
popularity of the work is not due to
simplicity or brevity, but rather to its
comprehensive treatment of most of the
important topics and problems that
exercised the minds of the exponents of
the Navya-Nyaya school for several
centuries. The author flourished after
Raghunatha Shiromani, Mathuranandha,
and Jagatheesha and he has naturally
utilized these matters
Padarthas
There are Seven padarthas in
Nyaya Philosophy. They are Dravya,
Guna, Karma, Samanya, Visesha,
Samavaya, Abhava.

Dravya: Earth, Water, Fire, Air, ether,


space, direction soul and mind

Guna: Roopa, Rasa, Gandha, Sprsa,


sankhya, parimana, prithaktwa,
samyoga, vibhaga, paratwa, aparatwa,
gurutwa, dhravatwa, sneha, sabdha,
budhi, Icha, Dwesha, Prayatna, Dharma,
Adharma, Samskara.

Karma: Uthkshepanam, Apakshepanam,


Aakunjanam, Prasaranam, Gamanam.

Samanya: Param, Aparam.

Visesham: The visesha is the dharma


that separates one from the other that
sits in the eternal.

Samavaya: samavayam means eternal


relationship. Found in aydhasiddha. If
one of the two objects is dependent on
the other for the whole of its existence,
then they are aydhasiddha.

Abhavam: Pragabhavam,
Pradwamsabhavam, athyanthabhavam,
Anyonyabhavam.
