SYLLABUS IN EARTH SCIENCE

S.Y. 2021 – 2022
Course Description: This learning area is designed to provide a general
background for the understanding of the Earth on a planetary scale. It presents the
history of the Earth through geologic time. It discusses the Earth’s structure and
composition, the processes that occur beneath and on the Earth’s surface, as well as
issues, concerns, and problems pertaining to Earth’s resources.
Course Objectives: The syllabus is designed to help students to:
1. describe the historical development of theories that explain the origin of the
universe and structure of the Earth
2. recognize scientists with significant contributions to our knowledge of Earth
3. identify common rock-forming minerals using their physical and chemical
properties and Earth Materials and Resources
4. explain the different types of energy resources, water resources, soil
resources; and
5. discuss human activity and the environment.
