Sebaceous Cyst Biopsy Report

Mr. Zia Ud Din, aged 60, had a sebaceous cyst excised from his forehead. The biopsy was initially diagnosed as a benign cystic adnexal tumor. Upon second opinion, the pathology report found it to be an eccrine spiradenoma, a benign skin adnexal neoplasm, and found no evidence of malignancy. Microscopic examination showed a partly cystic, partly solid neoplasm comprising basaloid cells and ductal structures with focal basement membrane material. Cystic areas were lined by cuboidal epithelium and foamy histiocytes. Hemosiderin deposition, cholesterol clefts and lymphocytic infiltration were also present.

Microscopic Description
The sections show partly cystic partly solid neoplasm. The solid areas show nodules comprising small basaloid cells favouring ductal
structures at places with foci showing basement membrane like material. The cystic areas are lined partly by cuboidal epithelium
and partly by foamy histiocytes. Hemosiderin deposition, cholesterol clefts and lymphocytic infiltration is also seen. Overlying skin is
not identified. No evidence of malignancy is seen in the material examined.
