Section A: Exploring Media Language and Representation    
You will learn to analyse media language, considering how    
elements of media texts influence and communicate meanings in  
media products. You will also explore the concept of representation  Component 1:

Section B: Exploring Media Industries and Audiences  
In this section you will develop knowledge and understanding of 1 hour 30 minutes
key aspects of media industries, including ownership, funding,  
regulation, production, distribution and technology. In addition, Written paper
you will consider relevant aspects of media audiences, such as
targeting and categorisation, consumption and use, and theory.
Texts studied include: advertising, film marketing, newspapers, and
video games
 
Section A: Television Crime Drama    
Television genres have distinct social and cultural significance in    
terms of particular representations of the world, their financial     
importance to the television industry, and their popularity with Component 2:  
television audiences. You will learn about how the crime drama Understanding  
genre has changed over time, exploring how media language, Media Forms and  
representations, message and values, themes and issues reflect the Products  
key social, cultural, political, and historical contexts in which they   30% of total
are produced. You will also learn about the role of technology in   GCSE
targeting audiences. 1 hour 30 minutes
Texts studied are Luther and The Sweeney.  
Written paper
Section B: Music Video and Online Media
This section requires a detailed study of music through focusing on
two contemporary music videos and the online, social, and
participatory media surrounding the artists. You will also study one
music video from the past to develop understanding of media
language and of how representations reflect, and are influenced by,
the time in which they are made.
Texts studied include: Taylor Swift (Bad Blood) and Bruno Mars
(Uptown Funk), however it is likely these will change for this cohort

Learners will create a cross-media product in response to a set Component 3:  
brief. There will be opportunities to develop a range of production Creating Media  
skills including: photography; lighting techniques; Photoshop Products 30% of total
editing; InDesign; and Final Cut. In recent years students have had   GCSE
the opportunity to create poster and DVD covers for their choice of  
teen, crime thriller, and romantic comedy genre films. The current Non-exam
cohort will be creating the front cover and article pages for a new assessment
specialist magazine in the genre of their choosing.
