STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
I, Zabir Sattar Khan, state as follows:
1. I am making this statement to outline:
a. my reasons for choosing to undertake my course of study;
b. my reasons for choosing my education provider;
c. my reasons for choosing to study in Australia rather than Bangladesh;
d. the relevance of my course of study to my academic and employment
background;
e. the relevance of my course of study to my future career plans.
Reasons for undertaking course of study
2. It has always been my dream to do my higher education in Australia with
real responsibilities. My main aim and focus would be to finish my course enjoy
some Australian sunshine, meet new people and explore this beautiful country.
And eventually, go back to my country. Finding a job in hospitality or open up
my restaurant or hotel chain.
3. Since I was 11 years old, I recall when my first Aunt (Father's Sister)
went to Australia and got settled nearby my other Aunt (Father's Third Sister).
They have been living in Australia practically over 20 years. My cousins
consistently request that I visit them and study with them; however,
unfortunately, I was unable to get a chance. I will also like to include that my
younger brother is at the moment of finishing high school and will be joining
college. He has been insisting me to study these two courses in Australia and
then return back to Bangladesh together...I believe Australia is a multi-cultural
and has a lot of better opportunities and an influential study found in hospitality
sector. Whereas Malaysia is a mixed Asian country so is Bangladesh and the
not recognized worldwide. A degree from Malaysia or Bangladesh will not get
me to more prominent hotel’s and not that professional since it’s not recognized
worldwide. But a degree and graduate certificate from Australia can get me to
well-known hotels and catering business. This is one of the primary reasons
why I need to concentrate on Australia.
4. I feel very strongly that if I finish the course in Reach Community
College in proper time successfully, I will make me a better performer in my
upcoming life activities. I need a career that I can work late as working in
hospitality includes working late and irregular hours, lots of hand work’s and I
love cooking and escorting and having guests around me...
5. The decision for me to go to Australia and study Advanced Diploma in
Hospitality Management in Reach Community College seems perfectly timed.
After I completed high school, I had to take a little break from my studies and
my father had a massive heart medical procedure with nearly winding up with a
blockage which in the long run wound up with three rings joined to his heart…
Because of his ailment, I couldn’t immediately start my higher studies which
therefore being the eldest in the family conveying heaps of obligations I took to
be exact 18 months break where I looked after the family business (Faruk
Shipping Lines). Now that I attempted all the final exam of my Diploma in
Culinary Arts, I think I am ready to take to study and complete these courses in
Reach Community College.
6. I have always had an interest in food and accommodation industry and
spend a lot of my spare time in the kitchen or service-related activities, like my
team cooking and servicing for inside campus restaurant’s, bartending, being
the manager. From a young age cooking and servicing have been part of my
life, and growing up seeing all the best Chef’s around the world like Gordon
Ramsey, Mauro Colagreco, Emmanuel Remaut etc., and famous wealthy hotel
chain owner’s like Sheldon Adelson, William Barron Hilton, Phillip Ruffin has
always been my uprising inspirations towards hospitality... I love cooking so
much I remember getting up at 5 am to go to the kitchen and practice some
different kinds of cutting style’s on vegetables etc. and also setting the family
dinner table in A la carte, Table d’hote style for my family before school and
spending my weekends as a teenager travelling all over Bangladesh and
Malaysia to take part in competitions and small voluntary servicing and cooking
food for children and charities. Changed a massive part of my lifestyle, and I
enjoy it. I feel Australia has excellent opportunities in the Hospitality sector,
especially Sydney and has motivated me to continue the lifestyle I loved so
much growing up in Bangladesh and to make this into my future career...
7. I would love to have this not just as a personal lifestyle but be able to
gain all the right skills to make this into my job and be able to earn a living
doing something I have a real passion for and can help make a difference in
the food and service industry which will be a gratifying achievement. I am
aiming to end up with new ideas of food/catering and service restaurants and
hotel concepts in urban and rural areas in Bangladesh, once I have completed
my studies.
8. I have taken some time to look into the food and service industry in
Bangladesh and found that there is an overall improvement in the attitude
towards food/catering and service, compared to previously recorded, but there
is a massive space for development.
9. Bangladesh has seen a flood in the populace in the previous 2-3
decades both in urban and provincial regions and along these lines there is a
regularly developing interest to improve the food/catering and service industry
and I accept the information and abilities I gain from these courses will assist
me with accomplishing my profession objectives.
10. According to Australian tourism statistics 2020. Australia's Visitor
Arrivals recorded 5,400 people in Jun 2020, compared with 3,440 ... The
Australian Bureau of Statistics provides monthly Tourist Arrivals. International
visits for 2019/2020 are expected to reach 6,500,000 – a 30% drop of 2.8
million visitors from the previous year, having a severe effect on the tourism
sector. Visitor arrivals highlight for June 2020 There were 5,400 visitor arrivals
during the month of June, down 99.2 per cent relative to the same period of the
previous year. There were 6.74 million visitor arrivals for the year ending June
2020, a decrease of 27.9 per cent corresponding to the last year.
11. I do not see these statistics as a negative, but as an even stronger
reason, I can make my career goals work. Taking my qualifications and some
of the Australian attitudes towards food and service industry back to
Bangladesh with me, I believe I will be able to make a change in Bangladesh.
12. I know how hard it can be as a middle-aged man to find the will power or
knowledge to study in food/catering and service industry properly, but I believe
it is so crucial for me for not giving up on my ambition and to keep myself active
in these specific areas, and I think my passion and knowledge gained from
these courses, combined will mean I will succeed in my career goals.
13. I decided that I want to study this course for these reasons. I want to
become a well-known Chef and Service expert specializing in expanding the
Bangladesh Hospitality industry in a big scale. I feel that this line of work is
more conducive to my age and family, and is a career I can carry forward
happily and proudly in the future. I also consider this to be the reasons as a
positive and I feel that on the off chance that I have satisfactory information in
Hospitality and I will have the option to return my expertise to Bangladesh and
offer great support to government ventures and teach Australian morals in the
workforce.
I concluded that I need to examine a course for these reasons.
14. I had an opportunity to work at La Casa Verve’s at Mont Kiara and as a commis
,restaurant supervisor in Malaysia for almost a year whilst studying.
15. I have been exposed to the arts of culinary and made me realize to gain a
deeper interest and understanding of the Food industry.
16. I would like to gain an in-depth practical study in this field of expertise to
increase my personal experience and build my confidence to increase my
general employability in the culinary and service industry.
17. I have gained relevant theoretical knowledge while studying but I believed that I
need more of the practical aspect which is very important in this field.
18. For these reasons, I chose my courses of study.
Reasons for choosing education provider
19. After looking at many different places to study my courses (Advanced Diploma
in Hospitality Management), I finally chose Reach Community College because
I feel they ticked all the boxes of what I was looking for in a place of study.
Reach Community College strategy is to be perceived as the most creative and

have done, has proven results from previous students who managed to gain
employment from their studies with this institute. Reach Community College
also provides internship placement, specialized lab’s and highly graded kitchen
equipment and kitchens..
28. Reach Community College is located 132-146 Elizabeth St, Hobart TAS 7000,
Australia. Location also played a part in my decision, finding a place to study
that will work with a routine of my transportation from the place I will reside
which I already have managed to organize all perfectly.
29. I feel very confident this is the correct choice of education provider for myself.
30. For all these reasons, I chose Reach Community College as my education
provider.
Reasons for choosing to study in Australia
31. Deciding to study in Australia for my degree is a choice myself and my
family invested some energy considering. After weighing up the advantages
and disadvantages of concentrating in Australia or back in Bangladesh or
Malaysia so we came to pick Australia.
32. Things that made me make this choice was firstly the ‘Diversity of
students’, Australia is third behind only the United States and the United
Kingdom in terms of numbers of international students, and has seen at least
200,000 foreign students attend its universities for the past several years.
33. Secondly Australia has ‘Global Academic Recognition’ High quality
academic programs in science fields, like nursing and healthcare, chemistry,
biology, zoology and wildlife, mathematics, technology and engineering are
found in a great number of Australia’s major universities. As the educational
degrees obtained here are recognized all over the world, this makes a study
abroad program in Australia a valuable addition to every student’s professional
resume.
34. Thirdly, ‘Wide Choice of Subjects’. There are over 40 universities in
Australia, and each of them offers vast and varied opportunities to study a
range of different subjects. Most study abroad students prefer the larger
universities, where students can pick from just as many courses of study as
any major American or Canadian or Malaysian etc. university. To give an
example, the Australian National University offers a staggering 750 possible
course combinations! This means that not only I will be able to take courses
related to my major, but I can also broaden my spectrum of learning by taking
offbeat courses that I may not be able to find in my Malaysian, Canadian or
Bangladeshi institutions.
35. Fourthly. ‘Study Abroad Scholarship Options ’Study abroad expenses
are usually the deal breaker for students who wish to obtain an international
education. Recognizing this, and wishing to give students every opportunity to
unleash their talents, every year the Australian government sets aside over
$200 million dollars specifically for international students coming to study at
Australian universities. These are usually based on merit cum means, and
there are certain requirements for application to some- for example, grade
requirements, financial need, etc. Students who have been accepted to study
abroad in Australia should inquire with the University’s financial aid department
to see what scholarships may be available to them.
36. Fifthly ‘Work while study’ International students can work part-time
while on a student visa, which will further help them to knock down the price of
studying abroad in Australia. Students are allowed to work up to 40 hours every
two weeks in jobs that require only basic skills, such as in the food and
beverage service, petrol pumps or in their university campuses. This is
something that can really help drive down the cost of education and living
expenses. There is dignity of labor and no job is considered demeaning. With
the minimum wage in Australia at just under 17 dollars per hour, students can
cover a good chunk of their expenses associated with rent, groceries, utilities,
and maybe even a bit of tuition.
37. Sixthly. come ‘Language no bar!’ Studying in a country where English
is not the primary language throws up many challenges for international
students. Simple tasks like shopping in a grocery store or asking for directions
could prove to be an ordeal for students in some European countries….and this
is quite a non-issue for students in Australia! While some students may find it a
bit hard at first to understand the lazy Australian drawl or pick up the nuances
of Australian slang, they will soon enough become accustomed to this as well.
38. Seventhly which is one of the main reasons is the ‘Fabulous weather’.
Most parts of Australia enjoy great weather which is an added bonus for
students. Except for some places, Australia’s climate remains moderately warm
to downright hot year-round. Beaches are sun-drenched and attract tourists by
the thousands. Top universities that are located in Sydney, Brisbane, and
Melbourne have temperatures that are usually above 50 degrees Fahrenheit. A
point to keep in mind is that, as Australia is in the southern hemisphere,
seasons are reversed, and Christmas is sunny and warm!
39. On the eight of my choosing list is ‘Lots of activities’ to do in Australia
besides studying. For students who enjoy exploring the outdoors, there is an
endless number of memorable activities waiting. Plenty of outdoor adventures
are available, and students can get away from civilization anytime they wish!
Explore the Australian outback….hobnob with kangaroos on Kangaroo Island…
check out some rock formations that are two billion years old and go trekking in
stunningly beautiful rainforests. I can experience gorgeous scuba diving and
snorkeling, and swim with the fishes under the Great Barrier Reef! For those
who enjoy indoor activities, Australia is home to world class museums and art
centers, and the Sydney Opera house hosts over 40 shows per week. 9 th of my
list comes ‘Work hard and play hard?’ which is very inspiring Australians are
well known for their laid-back lifestyles, and the student culture of the country is
no different. Australian students do work hard and definitely take their schooling
very seriously, but they have an excellent life balance with plenty of leisure
activities too. Many of the major universities in Australia are located along the
east coast and have easy access to parks, trails, and some beaches. People
are used to an outdoorsy life and students usually fall in line as well. There are
student clubs devoted to just about every type of relaxation activities and
students get many chances to relax and enjoy themselves away from
academics.
40. Lastly 1 big advantage is that I can ‘Visit Nearby Locations’. While
there are many opportunities for travel within the country, there are beautiful
nearby locations where students can go for shorter breaks. New Zealand is just
a short flight away, and many tropical islands of the South Pacific are easily
within reach as well. These offer perfect getaways over school holidays (spring
or fall break) or even for short weekend trips during the term.
41. I believe by the time I graduate me and my younger brother can come
back to my country ‘Bangladesh’ and open up our new business or work in
highly profiled companies and hotels. We have a good support system provided
by our Aunt and Uncle currently living in Australia right now, some good friends
who live very close by and might help me regularly with my studies and other
activities and might form a lovely bond.
42. As I have previously taken some studies in Bangladesh and Malaysia, I
am very aware that the education system in Australia is one of the best there is.
I can study here with absolute confidence that I will complete my course with
the highest levels of skill and knowledge possible to thrive in my future career.
An Australian gained qualification will no doubt make my resume very attractive
to any prospective employer I may.
43. I feel Tasmania is an immaculate and safe city, and as a student and
being healthy, this will always be the most crucial factor when making a
decision on where I want myself to be. Australia has a good health care
system, fantastic public transport services and offers brilliant facilities, all
crucial factors I took into consideration when making my choice.
44. I love the multiculturalism of this city also. Chance to meet individuals
from more than 100 nations, learning new societies, vast choices for food, and
an opportunity to learn modern dialects with local speakers of different nations.
45. I love living in a city with such a decently wide variety in culture and go
through the more significant part of my ends of the week eating out and
attempting new food, for example, Greek, Thai, India, or French! I love to live in
a city which genuinely grasps a multicultural society which Sydney does. This
disobediently affected me needing to remain here in Sydney while I study. This
defiantly had an influence on me wanting to stay here in Tasmania while I
consider.
46. The lifestyle in Australia will be fantastic, with such beautiful scenery
everywhere and the weather to be able to enjoy the outdoors. I fully appreciate
being able to spend so much time out in nature in this country. Bangladesh has
my heart as its where my roots, family and culture are but I am happy to enjoy
this landscape and weather for a little bit longer and let myself experience
some Australian culture. Yet I am glad to appreciate this scene and climate for
somewhat more.
47. While my choice to stay in Australia to study was easy to make,
considering the practical side to things, it was not such a simple choice when I
felt the emotional factors. Living on the other side of the world, far from home
and family can be very tough sometimes, and I miss them dearly. I fully intend
to bring myself back to Bangladesh to my family.
48. Australia provides job facilities for students where Bangladeshis in
Malaysia have no job opportunities. Saturday and Sunday is the weekend in
Malaysia, so the students here spend boring time’s end up doing nothing. The
weather here in Malaysia is which I very much dislike because it rains in
unknown time’s and the if there is no rain the temperature remains very hot all
the time. And there is no winter in Malaysian season. There is also a language
problem in Malaysia, as a Bangladeshi student, I face a lot of trouble while
communicating.
49. Even if I finish my higher education from Malaysia, it won't be much
valuable as Malaysian Certificate is not recognized worldwide, whereas an
Australian higher education certificate is recognized worldwide. Therefore, I
might not end up with a successful career in Malaysia, neither
Bangladesh...That is why I believe that finishing my studies in Australia will be
an ace in my career goals...
50. Australian qualifications are internationally recognized and respected anywhere
in the world.
51. Salary and wages in Australia are considerably higher. The cost of living in
Australia is reasonably lower than the cost of living compared to UK.
52. It’s easier for me to stay in Tasmania as I can converse in English well and I
have a few friends and family in Sydney and Tasmania already.
53. I have resided in Malaysia for three years already and I am comfortable and I’m
used to the transportation and places already.
54. The best thing about this act is its tuition fee protection policy which ensures
the investment of an international student is safe. It will not be wasted if in case
the institution is unable to provide the course to the student and it has to
arrange a replacement for the student or has to refund the tuition fee.
55. Choosing a country was a difficult task but Australia cut at the end because of it
being among the world’s best tourist destinations. It's amazing weather, great
people, and Nikhil Mittal of Nik Baker’s having completed his studies from
Australia. It may be surprising to you but Mr. Nikhil Mittal was of great
inspiration to me in choosing Australia as my education destination. Moreover,
Australia is among the 3 most popular destinations for overseas students after
the UK and USA with 7 out of top 100 universities in the world so it shows the
quality of education provided by the country and Australian degree is also
globally recognized so it is also very helpful for me to get jobs in any country.
56. For these reasons, I chose to study in Australia rather than the Malaysia
and Bangladesh,Canada and UK.
Relevance of course to academic and employment background
57. In terms of my academic background, my course is a new direction for
me. I have studied law LLB, Culinary in the past. There have been some
subjects I have studied in these courses that will help me be a better Food and
Beverage manager and well-known professional Chef and catering service
provider, particularly if I want to establish my own Café, restaurant, hotel and
catering business course will come in very useful.
58. In relevance to my academic background, after completing my diploma in
culinary arts along with a little bit of experience in fine dining restuarant
environment, I became more aware that the practical aspect is really important
in gaining confidence. I strongly believed that this course will help me with the
practical aspect that is lacking to develop and enhance my skills as a Chef and
managerial skills.
59. In relevance to my employment background, I have been a restaurant commis
boy and supervisor for more than one year. I believe that this course will help
me develop, enhance and strengthen my skills and ability through the practical
training and hands-on training that my educational provider will provide.
Relevance to future career plans
60. I would very much like the flexibility involved in being self-employed. My
plan is to work in Bangladesh as Food and Beverage manager and Executive
Chef for some time, and then eventually establish my own restaurant, café,
hotel and catering business especially in rural and urban areas which I believe
is a weakness in Bangladesh and needs improving.
61. I believe with my existing managerial experience, background
qualifications, personal love and interest for Hospitality and my course content,
I will be able to achieve this aim within 3-5 years.
62. Many of my friends back in Bangladesh and Malaysia own cafés and
restaurants now, and I have been discussing with them how they feel about my
career idea. They all agree that while there are defiantly more options out there
when it comes to hospitality and catering industry, that this type of areas still
need to be made available to more areas of Bangladesh as currently smaller
towns don’t have as many options. They all said if there were more choice,
such as options where they could be my partner and do business together.
63. The major food processing sub-sectors in Bangladesh include dairy,
edible oil, sugar, rice, wheat, fruit and vegetable, tea, poultry/beef, pulses and
spices and fish processing industries. I have recently saw a newspaper article
about the Food industry in Bangladesh which says Bangladesh has a quickly
developing buyer showcase, and because of an enormous populace base, the
interest for food items is consistently on the ascent. The market and the thing
extend have advanced fundamentally in the course of the most recent decade,
and numerous organizations have entered the food business, which was in any
case not into this degree of expansion previously. Brilliant Reap sees a great
deal of potential in the development of the food showcase. The objective buyer
is slanted toward having a decent item at the correct cost. As the price is
controlled by the market, the proper activity is to have a suitable question made
accessible for the buyers to make the right choice. Presently, what is directly
for the customer must be characterized by what s/he esteems for the cash
spent. On the off chance that we centre around the centre components of item
showcasing, the spotlight should initially be on the topic, which must be
accepted as this is the thing that would drive the business consistently.
Bundling plays an indispensable factor as that needs to pull in the buyer at the
rack yelling "Get Me" and not different brands. If the item is originating from a
presumed and confided in the maker, it is normal that the regular shopper
would be anxious to purchase that brand more than the other accessible
brands. Putting all the chips together, Brilliant Collect has given the best
endeavors to dispatch a scope of items in the Food market to get a sizable
portion of the pie. The DITF 2014 offers them the right platform to grandstand
their issues and make mindfulness for the buyers. At first, there would be two
item classifications with 9 item variations which will be stretched out to 10 item
classes incorporating more than 60 item variations and around 100 diverse
pack sizes. Given the initiative situation in the Solidified Food showcase, the
organization feels sure that the new item range would have a similar effect on
the market. The organization has consistently strived to offer the best of items
under the flag of "Brilliant Gather" with the goal that the brand gets built up for
the "Great Quality" item trust and certainty among the shoppers. This will be a
fresh start for the food advertising, and the organization would like to bend a
specialty for themselves with a solid piece of the pie encouraged with the
product offering and buyer base that is now there for the solidified food items.
As they acquire each new item class into the market, the purchasers would
have a superior decision for those items, and they would have an excellent
quality item sponsored by the brand value. https://www.thedailystar.net/food-
industry-in-bangladesh-6622
64. I believe that my future career path will be a success and promising upon
commencing into this course.
65. I have gained experienced in the theoretical field but I believe that I am lacking
the relevant practical and hands-on experience that is vital to further my career
66. I am looking forward to gaining the both relevant hands on and theoretical
experience of being a Chef and service manager and return home to open up a
restuarant and other business related to my experience.
67. This is just one of many articles I found which discusses how I feel when
it comes to the food industry in Bangladesh .These readings are really insightful
and useful for me to be able to properly plan a successful business .There will
be emotional factors that come into play which I must admit. But there is a
saying ‘No Pain, No Gain ‘.
Student Visa Conditions
68. I am aware of the visa conditions that apply to Student Visas, including:
a. Condition 8105: a student can only work for 40 hours per fortnight
during the session of course. A student can work for more than 40 hours
during their vacation provided by the educational institution.
b. Condition 8202: a student must maintain satisfactory amount of
attendance in the course study required by education provider.
c. Condition 8533: a student must inform their education provider about:
address of residence in Australia within seven days of their arrival
in Australia.
changed address of residence if assess within seven days of
change.
if the education provider is changed within a week of receiving the
evidence of enrollment.
69. I understand that if I breach any of these conditions my Student Visa can
be cancelled.
