LESSON LESSON 1 OF QUADRATIC EQUATIONS
SOLUTIONS
Topic: Solving Quadratic Equations by Extracting Square Roots, Factoring, Completing
the Square Method, and Using Quadratic Formula.
OBJECTIVE
Upon completion of this lesson, you are expected to:
▪ solves quadratic equations by (a) extracting square roots; (b) factoring; (c)
completing the square, and (d) using the quadratic formula. (M9AL-Ia-b-1)
ACTIVITIES
Activity 6: The Best That It Has!
Direction: Analyze what is asked in each item. Answer all the questions carefully and write your
answer in the space provided.
1. You are to solve each of the following quadratic equations using any method (you can choose
among the 4 methods). Explain why you choose these method/s for solving the specific equation.
You can have as many answers as you can in each item and answers can be repeated. (5 pts. each)

2. The values of a, b, and c of a quadratic equation written in standard form are 3, - 8, and 2,
respectively. Another quadratic equation has a = 3, b = 8, and c = - 2. Will the two equations have
the same solutions? Justify your answer. (5 pts.)

END OF DEEPEN
Now that you have a deeper understanding of the topic, you are ready to do the tasks in the next
section.
Your goal in this section is to apply your learning to real-life situations. You will be given a practical
task that will demonstrate your understanding.
Activity 8: DESIGN PACKAGING BOXES!
Directions: Perform the following. Use the space at the back of this module in writing your answer.
(30 pts)
1. Make sketch plans of 3 rectangular boxes such that:
a. The heights of the boxes are the same; and
b. The boxes can hold 180𝑐𝑚3 , 270𝑐𝑚3 , and 240𝑐𝑚3 , respectively.
2. Write a quadratic equation that would represent the volume of each box.
3. Solve each quadratic equation by using any method to determine the dimensions of the
materials to be used in constructing each box.

END OF TRANSFER
You have completed this lesson. Congratulations!
Summary
This lesson was about solving quadratic equations using different methods such as extracting square
roots, factoring, completing the square method, and using the quadratic formula. The lesson provided
you opportunities to describe quadratic equations and solve these by using any of the methods. You
were able to find out also how such equations are illustrated in real life. Moreover, you were given the
chance to demonstrate your understanding of the lesson by doing a practical task. Your understanding
of this lesson and other previously learned mathematics concepts and principles will facilitate your
learning of the wide applications of quadratic equations in real life.
