1. 0 PURPOSE
The Methods Statement for Concrete Repair shall provide the specified guidelines to
be followed at J64 area for Neat Khuff Condensate Fractionation project.
2.0 SCOPE
The Method Statements shall cover all the repair work that will come across during
execution job related to concrete works such as honey combing, pinholes, cracks and
tie holes.

4.2 Bonding grout: It is a mixture of approximately 1 part cement to 1 part fine
sand passing a No.30 sieve (0.3mm) and mixed to the consistency of thick
cream (Ref PP 276706 Rev.A, Clause 2.4.2).
4.3 Patching Mixture or Mortar: It is a mixture of 1 part cement to 2.1/2 parts
sand by damp loose volume. The quantity of mixing water shall be no more
than that required for handling and placing.
4.4 Repair compound (IF REQUIRED) : Repair compound to be used shall be
approved by Saudi Aramco . .
5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1 RESPONSIBILITY
Area engineer along with QC inspector shall be responsible for all the quality
related activities. Safety officer shall provide basic safety guidelines and it is the
responsibility of area engineer to follow.
5.2 SAFETY
Basic PPE shall be used at site. Manufacturers material handling data sheet
shall be followed for safe handling.
5.3 TOOLS: Chisel, Hammer, and Wire brush.
5.4 MATERIAL
Bonding grout & Patching mortar as defined in para 4.
Approved repair compound .
5.5 SEQUENCE OF OPERATION
5.5.1 Identification of Repair Area
Area to be repaired shall be identified. Construction drawing shall be looked in
prior to start of repair job.
5.5.2 Identification of Type of defects:
Type of defects shall be classified as honeycombed surface, pinholes,
cracks.and damage to concrete surface.
5.5.3 Pretreatment of Concrete Surface
After 7 days of concrete curing, concrete surface shall be inspected for any
defects. All honeycomed and other defective concrete shall be removed down
to sound concrete by chipping. The area to be patched and an area about
150mm wide surrounding it shall be chipped with chisel and hammer. For
Cracks, on the concrete surface, V groove shall be made down to the sound

concrete. Prior to soaking with water, Concrete surface shall be made cleaned
with wire brush.
5.5.4 Application of bonding grout:
Bonding grout shall be prepared using a mix of 1 part ordinary Portland Cement
(Type I) to 1 part fine sand passing a sieve no. 30 sieve (0.3mm) and mixed to
the consistency of thick cream. After surface water has evaporated from the
area to be patched, the bond grout shall be brushed into the surface or
approved supplier of appropriate repair compounds as per recomendation.
5.5.5 Application of Patching Mortar.
The patching mortar (as defined in para 4.0) shall be mixed in advance and
allow to stand with frequent manipulation with a trowel without addition of water,
until it has reached the stiffest consistency that shall permit placing. The
patching mortar shall be consolidated into place as required and struck off so as
to leave the patch slightly higher than the surrounding surfaces.The patching
mortar shall not be retempered.
To permit initial shrinkage, it shall be finished to match adjacent formed
surfaces. Metal tools shall not be used in finishing a patch in a formed wall,
which shall be exposed. The patching area shall be kept damp for 7-days.
Approved repair compounds shall be applied as per manufacturers instruction.
5.5.6 Final Acceptance:
Repaired area shall be inspected visually after 7 days of curing and released for
subsequent activity .i.e. for concrete coating .
