1. Define Scope: Sinclair C5 modification to a human-powered vehicle.


2. Form constraints and criteria: It should be:
 single passenger vehicle
 human-powered vehicle
 cheaper
 suitable for short commute
 comfortable and aesthetically appealing for the consumers.

3. Idea generation/ morphological analysis:
 Cars steering, car pedal acceleration and bicycle electric brake, car automatic gear with
manual side brake.
 A motor with a continuous rating of 250 watts and a maximum speed of 4,100
revolutions per minute is powered by a 12-volt lead–acid electric battery. The
automobile begins to move, with the battery supplying power to the engine, which then
spins the wheel, after which the dynamo produces energy to replenish the battery and
supply electricity to the entire vehicle.
 For safety small airbags in the steering wheel and use of seat belt while lighter, stronger,
and flexible materials which are stable on the road will be used.

5. Concept justification: Sinclair disregarded basic marketing and new product development
concepts, resulting in a series of critical mistakes. The market was poorly defined, there was
a lack of both quantitative and qualitative market research, the vehicle's safety and
performance failed to meet the manufacturer's claims, the advertising messages were
confusing, the product and price were unsatisfactory, and the distribution methods chosen
were inappropriate for such a new product concept – in general, marketing principles were
completely ignored.
6. Structural distillation/ calculations: The basic chassis design has been utilized with
modifications targeting customer needs, aesthetics and the product cost.

10. Final design optimization: After the designing in SolidWorks, design optimization will be
carried out.
11. Final costing and technical drafting to BS8888: After design optimization this last step will be
carried out.
