Stressors of online classes to BSN 1-D students of the University of San Augustine during this
pandemic
Introduction:
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, governments around the world have closed all educational
facilities to prevent the disease from spreading, affecting teachers, educators, and institutions
directly.
The abrupt transition from a physical classroom to virtual environment is causing confusion
among students. The aim of this study is to look at student’s perceptions of academic stress during
current online education, as well as their coping strategies based on emotional intelligence. We
researchers conducted this study to provide ideas or knowledge about what was going on in this
type of learning during the pandemic. Academic stress emerges out from experiencing stress due
to factors such as scholarship requirements, family-related pressures, competition in the class and
course-related stress and financial burdens experienced by many. As college students, we are the
ones who are experiencing it, and we believe that it should be acknowledged by many, particularly
those in positions of power.
One of the existing problems is financial instability; students carry heavy guns but not loaded,
funds made for education is at stake and not at ease. Same when it comes to financial capabilities
of some students. In this time accessibility is one of the major problems. Basic needs are not just
as basic as others have. Students need fair and whole support when it comes to their necessity.
Some are fortunate enough to handle this new normal but some depends on the actions of the
government. Some students experience having low self-esteem since there's no added physical
activities and suffers questioning their worth and capabilities. And also due to lots of requirements
and stuffs to do, the difficulty in passing is affecting students system. Several conflicts in the
families were also raised as one of the major problems that could lead to a stressful situation and
depression.
This study was designed to identify the causes of stress to BSN 1-D students during
pandemic, online education student do not enjoy privileges such as access to library resources,
computer laboratories, and student support service interactions with academic counselors which is
a disadvantage--compared to regular and campus students. Stress comes in different forms to an
individual’s daily life. Stress is a bio-psychosocial model that refers to the consequence of failure of
an organism to respond adequately to mental, emotional or physical demands, whether actual or
imagined cited in Al-Sowygh, (2013). According to Akhlaq, Amjad and Mehmood (2010), stress is
seen as a psycho- physiological process, which results from the interaction of the individual with
the environment and results in disturbances caused to the physiological, psychological and social
systems, depending upon individual characteristics and psychological processes. Psychological
processes refer to such factors as attitudes, values and various personality dimensions. Stress can
cause other extreme problems in one's physical, psychological and social health. It can cause
relationship problems too, as one may be quick to anger and overact on trivial issues. It can also
cause problems with cognitive functioning where students are unable to concentrate or learn as
well as they normally would.
This study aims to determine the cause and effect of pandemic as stressors to BSN 1-D students
in online class and t analyze the academic stress experienced by the students in online class
during the pandemic, determining the coping strategies in academic stress, analyzing the effects of
pandemic to the academic performance of BSN 1-D students in online class and lastly to determine
the accessibility of internet to students. The overall purpose of the problem is to decrease the
psychological effect of the academic stress of students. These are depression, anxiety, and severe
cases of suicidal attempts.

of a population. It aims to provide an explicit rendering of the structure, order, and broad patterns
found among a group of participants.
